India-Mauritius Friendship fest, ‘Maitri Parv’ in full swing

As part of the celebration marking the 75th Anniversary of the Independence of India, a week-long India-Mauritius Friendship Festival, ‘Maitri Parv’ is being hosted from August 15-21. The celebration will see a host of cultural events taking place, encompassing a Mega Cultural Show by Mauritius artists from the Mahatma Gandhi Institute, a Music and Dance Show by students at the Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture (IGCIC) at the IGCIC auditorium in Phoenix.

Considered as the first of its kind initiative, an Art Conclave showcasing 75 selected works by 75 eminent Mauritian artists on the theme ‘My Vision of India’ coupled with the Indian Food Mela from August 19-21 will be hosted at the IGCIC that will be back on the island offering a gamut of mouth-watering and unique Indian delicacies on sale.

IGCIC Director Mr Balwant Thakur during the address gave a peek into the celebrations.

On the sidelines of the flag hosting event at the IGCIC on August 15, Director Balwant Thakur gave a peek into the celebrations kickstarting on August 16 where he announced a performance of professional artists hailing from Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy performing to Raslila and showcasing the rich Manipuri culture, Martial Arts of Manipura. The IGCIC Director also spoke about the Art Conclave scheduled for 10 days which is open for the public from August 19-28 while on August 19 a mega cultural show will be presented by students and teachers at the Mahatma Gandhi Institute.

The Indian Food Mela will take place on August 19 from 6 pm to 9 pm; August 20-21 from 11 pm to 9 m while on August 20 the show Nritiya Sangeet Utsav will be performed by students and teachers of the IGCIC. The grand celebration will culminate with a special Ghazal programme by the Hussain brothers, Ustad Ahmed Hussain and Ustad Mohammed Hussain, renowned Ghazal singers from Jaipur Rajasthan will perform at the IGCIC auditorium on Sunday, August 21.
