The event was hosted by:

And attended by other distinguished guests including:

The ceremony was held in the new branch in the morning according to auspicious Feng Shui timing with a lion-awakening ritual. This ritual is said to empower the lion to fulfil its duty of bringing about protection, good luck, health, and prosperity to new branch.

The Bagatelle branch is an exciting investment, introducing the latest HSBC group retail design in Mauritius with the ultimate aim of meeting our customers’ evolving expectations and preferred ways to transact with us.

The branch is fully equipped to provide our full suite of banking services, namely, counter transactions, account opening, credit facilities application and facilitate access to our international services.

Our relationship managers and Home Loan specialists are seasoned and well trained to provide personalised and undivided attention.

We have extended our opening hours for more convenience and our Bagatelle branch is open for business till 6pm on weekdays and closes on 3 pm on Saturdays.

A milestone for HSBC Retail Banking in Mauritius

Nitin Ramlugon, Head of Wealth and Personal Banking at HSBC said, commenting on the relocation, “The branch experience is one of our most critical, high contact touchpoints, as our customers have taken the time to visit us in person about their banking needs.

This presents an opportunity to create a real, uniquely human moment to better serve our customers and increase their bond with our brand. We are making changes to ensure we are fit for the future and live to our brand promise of opening up a world of opportunity for our existing and future customers.

Bonnie Qiu, CEO of HSBC Mauritius adds: “We are ensuring we have a retail banking operation that is aligned to our customers’ needs, as well as supporting the growth of our customers’ financial future. We have a history of over 100 years in Mauritius, and began with high street banking.

Retail banking is changing, and we now have to pivot our branches to where our customers go to, and continue to meet their needs, by leveraging our global expertise and footprint to connect customers to international opportunities.”

Bagatelle branch design follows HSBC’s core brand design principles with some localisation in order to deliver on our core brand promise and a premium customer experience.  Our customers are ‘global citizens with an international mindset’, so like all international brands, a consistent look and feel across markets is key.”Bonnie Qiu, CEO of HSBC Mauritius

Why Bagatelle?

Part of our strategy to move away from high street location to in-mall location which is where our customers are – a convenient location where they can combine at one go banking, errands, leisure, shopping, dining, chilling out.

What differentiates this branch from others in the network?

  • Accessibility in terms of parking space availability and security of the location enabling extended opening hours (till 6pm weekdays and till 3pm on Saturdays) making us accessible after customers’ working hours.
  • Mall meet our sustainability/ net zero ambition and consequently the branch is partly/fully powered by electricity produced by the mall’s solar panels.
