Absa Mauritius, first bank to receive Certificate of Compliance of the Data Protection Office (DPO)

A ceremony was held at Absa House in Ebene on Wednesday 19 October in the presence of the Managing Director of Absa Maurice, Mr. Ravin Dajee, the Data Protection Commissioner, Ms. Drudeisha Madhub, as well as many bank staff. This certification represents a unprecedented progress in the banking sector because it attests to the total adherence of Absa Maurice to the laws which govern data protection in Mauritius.

The fact that a banking institution collects a substantial amount of confidential data every day makes such certification essential. It should be added that Absa Maurice is not only the first bank to hold this certification, but also becomes the very first organization to benefit in Mauritius”, according to Ms. Drudeisha Madhub, Data Protection Commissioner.

Obtaining this Certificate of Compliance comes after a rigorous evaluation of more than 100 aspects concerning the protection and security of personal information. human rights concerned, the conservation and security of data processing are among the aspects that have all been made testing to ensure compliance with data protection law requirements. By meaning his intention to obtain this recognition in 2021, Absa Maurice embarked on a process which required the involvement of each employee.

Each department had to ensure compliance with the legal framework Absa Bank (Mauritius) Limited (registered number C10068913).
