On the sidelines of the 75 anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Mauritius, Indian High Commissioner Her Excellency Shrimati Nandini K Singla spoke about India taking over as the chair of the G-20 summit. India has invited Mauritius as a guest country in all meetings from December 1, 2022, to November 30, 2023.

The ambassador told that as India took over as the chair of G-20, the first thing that it did was to invite Mauritius to participate as a special guest. “No matter how far India goes globally, we will not forget our dear partners and friends where we believe in One World, One Family and One Future where Mauritius is a proud part of our journey,” she added.

The theme chosen by India for the G20 summit is Vasudhaiv Kutumbakam which means, “The World is one family.” On November 15 and 16 when the conference was held in Bali, Prime Minister Modi was quoted saying, “India’s year-long G20 Presidency will be inclusive, ambitious, decisive and action-oriented while emphasising that will foster an honest dialogue on mitigating risks posed by weapons of mass destruction and enhancing global security. He added that India’s G 20 plans also include a special focus on start-ups and help bridge the digital divide.

The Government News Agency, GIS has quoted the Minister of Foreign Affairs Alan Ganoo saying that the invitation from India, apart from illustrating the excellent bilateral relations and enduring friendship between the two countries, provides a unique opportunity to further the national agenda of Mauritius in the realm of global governance and on issues of vital interests for the country.

Minister Ganoo added that set against the global economic downturn, the pandemic, the Ukraine-Russian conflict and the impact of climate change, G-20 will lend the island a unique platform for its voice and strengthen the leadership role that it has consistently played to help push the Small Island States agenda on the global front.

The G20 is an intergovernmental forum constituting the global developed and developing nations encompassing, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the UK, the US and the European Union.

Member States account for 85 percent of global GDP, over 75 percent of global trade, and about two-thirds of the world population.
