Sustainability has a new face at Ollergasaille, the beginning of the world

Ollergasaille is a tourism village nestled in the Southern Kenya where it has recently bagged the coveted UNWTO Best Tourism Village of Ollergasaille for promoting sustainability. This article speaks about the pristine beauty of Ollergasaille as a destination as we grapple with several challenges on the planet and a commitment on the part of all stakeholders such as citizens and businesses to work together for a greener future.

Do you ever look around and wonder where life began? How did our world get to be the way it is today?

Well, they say that Africa holds the key to unlocking many mysteries – and one such secret lies in the ancient African kingdom of Ollergasaille. Located in what’s now known as the Southern region of Kenya, this once-powerful dynasty was home to some of history’s most gifted thinkers, innovators, and spiritual teachers.

In these lands can still be found cultural practices that are thousands of years old, an invitation for us all to reconnect with past wisdom and explore its implications for ourselves today. At Ollergasaille, the people believe that each one of us has a role to play when it comes to protecting our planet’s precious resources and establishing policies that promote long-term sustainability both now and into the future. Hence, they commit themselves to working together with all stakeholders – from citizens to businesses – towards achieving these goals so that all may benefit from a cleaner environment today and tomorrow.

Home to Maasai People

The village of Olergesailie is home to the Maasai people due to its rich tradition and history. The Maasai has inhabited the area since time immemorial, and they have continued to practice their traditional customs and rituals as they have for centuries.

The village also has great geographical significance as it is situated in a fertile basin near the Rift Valley – an area that provides plentiful resources such as water, grasslands and wildlife.

These resources are essential for sustaining life in the area and have allowed the Maasai to survive in a harsh environment over many generations. The Village of Olergesailie also plays an important role in maintaining cultural ties within the Maasai community.

Prioritising Sustainability

Ollergasaille is committed to prioritising sustainability and preserving our planet for generations to come. To do this, they have implemented a number of initiatives at the local, county, and national levels. These include effective management of resources such as energy and water, in addition to climate action plans.

They have also invested in strategies that reduce their consumption of water and solid waste management initiatives that ensure their production processes are as sustainable as possible.

Moreover, they have banned single-use plastic throughout the city to help reduce plastic pollution in the environment. For this reason, the village is a part of the UNWTO Best Tourism Villages programme, which prioritises sustainable development and the improvement of rural residents’ means of subsistence.

Oldest axes unearthed

A number of hand axes, the earliest of which date back about a million years and are among the oldest ever discovered, have been discovered in this area.

The majority of the axes have an egg-like shape and razor-sharp edges that may be used for cutting and hewing. These tools are properly made to accommodate the human hand.

This discovery has led some to believe that the people of Ollergasailie developed the necessary skills and technology to create tools that played an important role in their everyday lives.

In addition, stone tools found in this region may provide insight into how our ancestors lived, worked, and interacted with one another.
