By Loovesh Ramwodin
As the world celebrates Teacher’s Day, I find myself reflecting on a significant decision I made in a career change into the field of education. The decision to become a teacher is often driven by a profound calling. For me, this calling arose from the early times where I used to be an Engineering student. I was always inspired and motivated by my Lecturers. This fueled my passion to contribute in shaping the minds of future generations.
Over the years, I have had the privilege of lecturing in both public and private universities across Mauritius, in the field of Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering, Software Engineering, Cyber Security, and Artificial Intelligence.
For Mr. Loovesh Ramwodin, teaching comes with its share of challenges, from managing diverse learning styles to adapting to rapidly changing educational technologies. The traditional role of a teacher as a dispenser of knowledge is undergoing a transformative shift. Today’s educators should be seen as mentors and facilitators who guide students on their learning journeys. With the internet and AI at their fingertips, students can access a wealth of knowledge independently. In this context, the role of educators as mere information providers becomes obsolete. Instead, educators should focus on empowering students to become self-directed learners.
As we celebrate Teacher’s Day, I am excited about the opportunity to inspire, empower, and shape the future leaders and innovators of Mauritius. Teaching is not just a profession; it’s a lifelong commitment to nurturing minds and fostering growth.
