South Korean Delegation Engages with Mauritius EDB on Investment and Market Expansion into Africa

In line of the visit of the high level South Korean delegation to Mauritius comprising 17 members and led by Mr. Chey Taewon, Chairman of SK Group / Chairman of Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), a high-level meeting was organised at EDB on Thursday 26 October 2023 with Mr. Kwangmin Lyou, Vice President and Chief of Staff, SK Inc, Mr. Seong Woo Lee, Vice President, The Korea Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI), Mr. Yunjae Won, Director, Global Cooperation Support Division, Entrepreneurs Committee for World EXPO 2030 Busan and Mrs Hwasue Sung, Counselor at the Embassy of Republic of Korea based in Madagascar (South Korean Non-Resident Diplomatic Mission accredited to Mauritius) to discuss Investment and Business Development Opportunities in Mauritius and through Mauritius to Africa.

Mr Hemraj Ramnial, CSK Chairman of EDB, Mr Issa Mohamad Soormally, Vice-Chairman of EDB, Mr Ken Poonoosamy, CEO of EDB, Mr Arvind Radhakrishna, Strategic Advisor, Mr Radhakrishna Neelayya, Senior Manager and Ms Pooja Lobind, Manager provided the delegation with key insights on the Market Diversification strategy of EDB, the Look East Strategy of Mauritius and how Mauritius can be a springboard for the Africa for operations of South Korean companies, whilst highlighting the business facilitation services provided by EDB and the conductive ecosystem that Mauritius offers.

SK Holdings is the second largest South Korean conglomerate, operating in the fields of Energy, Semiconductors, Oil and Petrochemicals, ICT (Telecommunications), Biopharmaceuticals and EV battery manufacturing. EDB and KCCI will set up a working group to reinforce collaboration and exchange of information for engaging with prominent members of KCCI, ahead of the Trade and Investment Promotion Mission to South Korea earmarked in 2024.
