The Mauritius Bar Association will host a number of acclaimed international legal experts at its conference on ‘The Future of Law’ at the Intercontinental Mauritius Resort, Balaclava Fort, on 24 November 2023. The event is being supported by leading members of the business community, including the Currimjee Group and Volvo, among other sponsors.
The conference, organised jointly with the Institute for Judicial and Legal Studies (IJLS), is the first post-pandemic event of this magnitude, and will feature international legal experts, including Professor Richard Susskind OBE, the world’s most cited author on the future of legal services; Nick Vineall KC, Chairperson of the Bar Council of England and Wales; and Pramila Patten, UN Special Representative on Sexual Violence in Conflict and Under-Secretary-General of the UN, as well as leading practitioners from the UK and US, including international human rights barristers.
Leading members of the legal profession in Mauritius will also be intervening in the panel sessions and the focus will be on topics such as how to future-proof the criminal justice system and the transformative role of AI in investigations and legal processes; the influence of international law, especially through the lens of international human rights law; environmental law; and their relevance for Mauritius; as well as a glimpse into the future of Civil law and the developments in our court systems in anticipation of what is to come.
