Port Louis, 15 February 2024: The ladies ward 1-6 at Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital in Rose-Belle is operational again after eight months of renovation. Dedicated to patients suffering from non-communicable diseases, this unit has had a makeover thanks to renovation works financed by Absa Mauritius as part of a partnership between the bank and the Ministry of Health and Wellness. The objective is to offer patients a more pleasant hospital environment and medical staff a more comfortable and modern working area.
The inauguration of this unit took place this Thursday, February 15, 2024, in the presence of Ravin Dajee, the Managing Director of Absa Mauritius; the Honorable Mahen Kumar Seeruttun, the Minister of Agro-industry and Food Security; and Dr Kailesh Jagutpal, the Minister of Health and Wellness.
“The high prevalence of non-communicable diseases within the population, and particularly among women, represents a real public health issue. As a responsible company, Absa Mauritius has been committed since several years to leading screening and awareness initiatives, particularly for diabetes. The renovation of this unit, at a cost of Rs 22 million, is a continuation of this commitment and above all attests to our ESG strategy, whose objective is to drive positive change within the community,” said Ravin Dajee, Managing Director of Absa Mauritius.
“For us, there is no doubt that there cannot be sustainable economic development without a population in good health. This unit has a very important role in the fight against these diseases, and we hope that patients and medical staff will take full advantage of these new amenities,” he added.
Quality renovations create a warm environment
The spaces have been rearranged, creating a waiting room and a consultation area at the entrance to the service.
Everything has been designed to create a welcoming atmosphere that respects the confidentiality of each patient. The materials used, as well as bedding and furniture, have been carefully chosen according to the highest standards.
In addition to the renovation work, Absa Mauritius also financed the purchase of numerous equipment, such as medical beds, trolleys and wheelchairs. The bank is also committed to ensure the regular cleaning and maintenance of Ward 1-6.
Much more than a simple renovation, this collaboration, which will extend over three years, significantly strengthens Absa’s commitment to playing a positive role within the diverse communities in Mauritius and demonstrates their constant desire to contribute positively to the health and well-being of everyone.
As a reminder, this long-term partnership between the Ministry of Health and Wellness and Absa Mauritius was signed in August 2022, during the visit of Savior Chibiya, Group Executive for Regional Operations at Absa.
