Sanjana Jhumun: Steering Oxyzenn Digital towards new horizons

As Oxyzenn Digital celebrates its third anniversary today, 1 April, we took the opportunity to catch up with the Founder and CEO Sanjana Jhumun. In Mauritius’ thriving digital scene, Sanjana stands out as a driving force behind Oxyzenn Digital, transitioning from a graphic designer to the helm of a digital agency. Her entrepreneurial voyage, ignited by a zeal for design and technology, exemplifies resilience and strategic foresight necessary in today’s digital era. Launching Oxyzenn Digital in the midst of a global pandemic showcased her unwavering determination and adaptability. Her recent involvement in the WTO-ITC High Level Event on Women in Trade in Abu Dhabi further highlights her dedication to broadening her network and championing the role of women in the digital marketplace.

As Oxyzenn Digital celebrates its 3rd anniversary, could you share what initially inspired you to embark on this entrepreneurial journey and how you would describe the evolution of your journey so far?

I was always drawn to the idea of starting something of my own because I loved design and technology, and wanted to use them to help businesses grow. It’s been like a rollercoaster – exciting, scary, and filled with ups and downs.

Before Oxyzenn Digital, I worked in the corporate world, like an intrapreneur with multiple brands managed by the company. The best part? These brands were of various industries, I had the chance to explore them all while gaining more experience. I have been fortunate to start my journey to work for an organisation, that not only supported me, but pushed me to do more and that helped me to be my absolute best.

This has led to a great entrepreneurial venture in digital for me.

This was never more apparent than when Imteeaz and I started Oxyzenn Digital on 1st April 2021, which coincided with the 2nd lockdown in Mauritius. I couldn’t have been prouder in my role in Oxyzenn Digital to be able to start and sustain the agency through an unprecedented time.

Tell us about your company Oxyzenn Digital? What services do you offer?

The experience we want our client to feel when working with us, is all about Digital Branding. This covers a range of services designed to enhance online presence and performance. Our offerings include: digital strategy, social media marketing, website design and optimization (SEO), paid advertising and content creation. Our goal is to deliver tailored, effective solutions that drive growth and success for our clients.

Clients come to us with their digital pain points, and we find the best custom solutions for them.

How do you see the opportunities and challenges in your sector? Are you interesting in expanding into other countries?

The digital world has no borders, which is both exciting and challenging. The past years showed and taught us that remote work functions in multiple industries’ roles – your online marketing team is part of that. We are certainly interested in expanding into other countries, particularly emerging markets where our expertise can fill a vital gap and help businesses thrive digitally.

In today’s tech landscape, what do you see as the biggest challenges?

The biggest tech-based challenge today is keeping it real. With AI and machines getting smarter, it’s important to remember that people still value a human touch. At Oxyzenn Digital, we have got to use technology to help our work but not let it take over the personal connection we have with our clients. At the end of the day, we are people behind brands dealing with people.

Sanjana Jhumun CEO & Digital Marketing Strategist at the WTO-ITC High Level Event on Women in Trade in Abu Dhabi.

You were recently part of the Mauritian delegation of women entrepreneurs to the WTO-ITC High Level Event on Women in Trade in Abu Dhabi. What were your key takeaways from this event?

It was an honour for me to stand alongside powerful women entrepreneurs from Mauritius at the WTO-ITC event. For me, it was an incredibly enriching experience. It highlighted the importance of global networks and the potential for women entrepreneurs to contribute significantly to international trade.

A key takeaway was the importance of building networks and platforms that support and encourage women in business. These connections not only open doors to new opportunities but also foster a sense of community and shared purpose, which is vital for driving change and innovation in any industry.

As we celebrate International Women’s Month, what would be your advice to encourage more women into the industry?

Just dive in! The digital industry might look technical on the outside, but it’s diverse. It’s important for women to understand that to be a woman working in digital or tech does not mean you have to be working in the technical side of things or be an engineer. Use your unique skills, whether that’s in communication, creativity or management.

I have spent 10 years working in the digital tech field and it has allowed me to work with my strengths – which is developing relationships, engaging with some of the most influential people and interesting companies.
