The hospitality industry, like many other economic sectors, is seizing growth opportunities and proactively responding to its challenges. In response to this, a collective of several establishments and hotel groups has officially launched a major campaign titled “Les métiers de l’hôtellerie” (The Professions of Hospitality). Deployed nationwide from May to December 2024, this initiative aims to highlight the diversity of rewarding careers offered by the sector and, most importantly, to better explain and position the true place of these professions and their expertise. The campaign launch took place this Wednesday, 22 May, at the Labourdonnais Waterfront Hotel in Caudan.
For the hotel collective, the objective of this campaign is to enhance and invigorate the attractiveness of the hospitality sector, so that it continues to attract and retain talent. While the industry was once highly sought after, particularly by young people, it now suffers from an image problem stemming from the intrinsic nature of the expected work, as well as numerous preconceived ideas and a lack of information about the wide variety of opportunities it offers.
“Hotels continuously invest to adapt to the expectations of their teams and provide them with a stimulating, secure work environment that respects work-life balance. However, despite our efforts, the industry still struggles to recruit and retain talent. The ‘Les métiers de l’hôtellerie’ campaign aims, on one hand, to highlight the possibilities and professional framework offered by the sector. On the other hand, it aims to underline the enriching and rewarding aspects of a career in hospitality, emphasising the tangible benefits offered to employees,” said Vincent de Marassé Enouf, principal coordinator of the collective, during the launch.
The challenge for the sector is to facilitate recruitment, particularly for high-demand positions such as servers and bartenders, housekeepers, and kitchen assistants. The campaign will primarily target young people in the process of career orientation or job seeking, as well as individuals undergoing professional retraining. The initiative is especially important as the competition for talent has now become a global issue.
In recent years, hoteliers have significantly invested to improve the value proposition for employees, who benefit from attractive bonuses and various performance incentives. In addition to a wide range of career paths, the hospitality industry also offers continuous training programs, providing access to promising career advancement opportunities. The industry is full of success stories of managers who have climbed the ranks, often starting their careers at the very bottom.
This campaign also aims to revalue the nature of the professions. “Working in hospitality is primarily about enriching the customer experience by offering them unique and memorable moments. Our professions are therefore extremely noble, rewarding, and enriching on a daily basis. This is one of the main messages we want to convey through this campaign, and thus remind people of the very beauty of hospitality. We also aim to show the public the attractive opportunities and benefits that this rapidly growing sector offers. More than ever, we want to attract motivated, passionate talents ready to take the industry to new heights,” added Vincent de Marassé Enouf.
The “Les métiers de l’hôtellerie” campaign will be deployed through various communication channels, including traditional media and social networks. Awareness activities are also planned.
The collective includes Beachcomber Hotels & Resorts, Constance Hotels Resorts & Golf, Sunlife, Attitude, Rogers Hospitality, Ninety-Six Hotel Collection, The Lux Collective, Beau Vallon Hospitality, Le Meridien île Maurice & Hilton Mauritius Resort & Spa.
