Integrating nature and technology in Savannah Connected Countryside

by Alvyn Ulrish Shad Savrimuthu

Savannah Connected Countryside is offering a unique immersive experience through its interactive model. This innovative concept allows visitors to explore development projects in harmony with nature, including agricultural areas, preserved forests, and sustainable real estate developments. The launch of this model demonstrates Savannah’s commitment to integrating new technologies throughout its development, aligning with its vision of a smart village.

Developed by ENL Property with a long-term vision, Savannah is designed to offer a high quality of life and an ideal working environment within a preserved natural setting in the south of Mauritius. The village combines residential, commercial, and leisure spaces, ensuring a harmonious lifestyle for its residents. The project emphasises sustainability, incorporating short supply chains to produce endemic Mauritian fruits and vegetables, which will supply local residents and businesses. Water purification systems and smart electricity meters will be implemented to promote efficient resource use.

Located at La Place du Gros Bois in the heart of Savannah, the model sits in a convivial space where visitors can dine, participate in sports, and engage in outdoor activities. Opened in 2022, La Place du Gros Bois has since become a vital part of the community, housing numerous projects such as an early childhood education centre and the Workshop17 coworking space. Several other projects are underway, including a sports centre and the expansion of the Savannah International School.

Platform Africa’s Exclusive Interview with Vincent Lagesse

Platform Africa caught up with Vincent Lagesse, senior manager at Savannah Connected Countryside, to discuss the project and its impact on sustainable living in Mauritius.

Vincent highlighted the project’s unique approach to creating a mixed-use village that integrates residential, commercial, and leisure spaces. He explained that Savannah Connected Countryside spans 440 acres in the south of Mauritius and is planned over 20 years. The project aims to offer a harmonious lifestyle where people can live, work, and enjoy recreational activities in a single, cohesive environment.

Emphasising sustainability, Vincent outlined several key initiatives. The project includes a farm producing endemic Mauritian fruits and vegetables to support local residents and businesses. Additionally, Savannah will implement water purification systems for recycling water to irrigate gardens and smart electricity meters to detect system faults quickly, thereby reducing water and electricity usage over time. “Our goal is to create a village where people can enjoy a sustainable and high-quality lifestyle,” Vincent said.

Vincent also discussed the community-focused aspects of the development, such as the inclusion of schools, offices, and nearby commercial establishments. These features are designed to foster a sense of community and ensure that residents have access to essential services within close proximity. “We want Savannah to be a place where people feel connected and supported, both personally and professionally,” he concluded.
