Ookla crowns EMTEL as the Fastest Mobile Network in Mauritius and Fastest in East Africa

16 July 2024, Ébène : EMTEL has been recognised as the Fastest Mobile Network in Mauritius, and in Eastern Africa for Q1-Q2 2024 by Ookla, the global leader in fixed broadband and mobile network analysis. This dual achievement, a first for EMTEL, and for Mauritius, in the Eastern African region, and a second consecutive  award for EMTEL in Mauritius, underscores the company’s commitment to innovation and excellence in telecommunications. 

The Speedtest Award for top providers in speed are determined using a Speed Score that incorporates a measure of each provider’s download and upload speeds to rank network speed performance.To determine this award, Ookla analysed consumer-initiated tests taken on Speedtest® using modern devices across all major operators in the country. The results of the analysis by Ookla confirms that EMTEL achieved the fastest overall mobile speeds in Mauritius during the said period, placing Mauritius at the 38th position in the world according to Speedtest Global Index that ranks on the basis of speed connectivity and performance. At the same time, Ookla confirms that Emtel is the fastest mobile network in East Africa, a first, not only for Emtel, but for Mauritius.
