Throughout September, Emtel focused on meaningful community initiatives aimed at improving well-being. The company implemented a series of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives during the last two weeks of the month. In partnership with the Thalassemia Society, Emtel organised a Blood Donation event on September 18 at its headquarters in Ébène, collecting 73 pints of blood.
Thalassemia is a hereditary genetic disorder that reduces the number of red blood cells, leading to hemoglobin deficiency. Those affected can suffer from anemia, and children may experience growth delays. Without proper treatment, this condition can cause excessive iron accumulation, heart failure, or even premature death. Emtel’s annual Blood Donation drive aims to raise awareness about thalassemia while ensuring a regular supply of blood for patients.
Responding to the event, Amrita Vayid, President of the Thalassemia Society, stated: “Blood drives are absolutely essential to provide the necessary treatments for individuals with thalassemia, a condition that requires regular transfusions to maintain their quality of life. We are extremely grateful for Emtel’s continued support in this vital initiative. Their commitment allows us to meet the needs of our beneficiaries.”
Regarding environmental preservation efforts, Emtel conducted a cleanup operation at La Citadelle on September 19, in partnership with Mission Verte. Emtel employees, along with volunteers from Mission Verte and other NGOs, came together to remove waste and improve the environmental health of the area.
Highlighting Emtel’s ongoing community commitment, Shezaad Auchoybur, CSR Manager at Emtel, stated: “Emtel is proud to participate in concrete actions that benefit the environment and the population. We are determined to support initiatives that aim to improve the well-being of our fellow citizens, and we will continue to carry out these projects to make a real difference in society.”
