The MSc Business programs with Professional Practice were designed to cater to the specific needs and aspirations of young professionals. One of the standout features of these programs is our commitment to employment; we offer an employment promise that guarantees students will find work after graduation. If they do not secure employment, they will receive a refund of their tuition fees—50% in cash and 50% credited towards other courses. This assurance not only alleviates financial concerns but also motivates students to actively engage in their career development.

In addition to our employment promise, our Masters programs are crafted with the latest industry trends in mind, including critical areas such as cybersecurity management and artificial intelligence. By integrating these contemporary topics into the curriculum, we ensure that our graduates are equipped with the skills and knowledge that are highly sought after in today’s job market.

Furthermore, our recently launched 2-year Masters programs include the option for paid work placements in the second year. This feature provides students with invaluable hands-on experience, allowing them to apply their academic learning in real-world settings while earning a salary. Although students are required to secure their own placement opportunity, our Employability service will assist you in your search with advice on how to draft a good CV, submit compelling applications and succeed in interviews, while our Placements Manager will be on hand to provide continued support. Our campuses are all based in city centre locations within the UK’s largest commercial centres, so there are many opportunities to network, and you will be on the doorstep of large, multinational companies.

  1. What unique elements of the curriculum differentiate the MSc Business programs from similar offerings at other institutions? How are these programs designed to meet the evolving demands of the global business landscape?

All of our programmes are designed to include a practical, hands-on focus that will help you to succeed once you enter the workplace and we look to ensure that we reflect ongoing developments in industry. For example, the use and impact of AI is embedded into most of the modules of our suite of new MBA programmes.

Our Business School Advisory Board has stakeholders from numerous organisations including Deloitte and Deutsche Bank who we engage with to ensure our programmes reflect the wants and needs of big business. We also leverage our knowledge as a provider of legal education and include a focus on the legal aspects of business.

  1. Given the option for a business plan or consultancy project, what support does the University of Law provide for students interested in entrepreneurship? Are there resources available to help Mauritian students launch their own businesses?

From day one students are encouraged to engage with and utilise our Employability Service to start planning for their post study careers. We have a dedicated Employability office at every campus, and they can help Mauritian students understand the process by which they would start their own business. Programmes such as MSc Strategic Business Management and our MBA programmes have an entrepreneurial focus and will help students develop the skills they need to go into business.

  1. How does the University of Law ensure that international students, particularly from Mauritius, feel integrated into the campus culture? What initiatives are in place to facilitate cross-cultural collaboration?

We invite international students to join us a week before their programme commences so they can take part in our International Welcome Week. Here students have the opportunity to meet their peers from around the world and participate in dedicated sessions that will introduce them to various aspects of life in the UK, including sessions that are focussed on developing cultural understanding of life in the UK and others that help them with practical aspects, such as registering with a doctor’s surgery.

We have a team of International Student Information Officers who are an ongoing point of contact for international students and in their role they will set-up events that help develop the international community. For instance, they recently hosted an afternoon tea.

  1. In what ways does the program prepare students for leadership roles, particularly in contexts relevant to Mauritius? Are there specific leadership skills emphasized in the coursework or practical components?

The MSc Business programs with Professional Practice are designed to prepare students for leadership roles relevant to Mauritius in several key ways. Firstly, our curriculum focuses on critical thinking, strategic decision-making, and ethical leadership. Through case studies and real-world projects, students learn to tackle complex business challenges and develop innovative solutions.

Additionally, we emphasize cultural intelligence and diversity management, which are vital in Mauritius’s multicultural environment. This helps students learn how to lead diverse teams effectively. Students also benefit from 1-to-1 career coaching, providing personalized guidance to enhance their leadership skills and career paths. This coaching helps them identify their strengths and prepare for future roles.

Moreover, the University of Law Business School offers specialized leadership programs, such as the MSc Leadership and Human Resource Management and the MBA Leadership program. The MSc Leadership and Human Resource Management degree prepares students for modern work environments, offering exposure to real-world knowledge from industry experts and accredited by the Chartered Management Institute. Graduates receive the CMI Level 7 Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership. The MBA Leadership program is delivered in an executive format over one long weekend per month, focusing on success in the digital economy and providing intensive coaching for personal development.

Finally, the option for paid work placements in the second year allows students to gain practical leadership experience, making them more confident and ready for the job market. Overall, these elements ensure that our graduates are well-equipped to take on leadership roles and make a positive impact in Mauritius. We follow the CASE Method approach, which is a discursive, participatory method of learning that gets students engaging with their peers and encourages them to act like leaders.

Students who choose to complete our Professional Practice year can decide between finding a one-year industry placement or otherwise developing a business plan, consultancy project or business project that is supported by a designated supervisor.

Our Business School Advisory Board includes stakeholders from big business, and we make sure to engage with them in order to deliver programmes that are relevant to the challenges of the modern-day workplace. Many of our Faculty have come from industry so they are conscious of the demands of the workplace.
