Platform Africa would like to convey its deepest sorrow and condolences to the family and friends of Nuru Mugambi, Founder of the Angaza Forum and Awards, who passed away on 12 November 2024 in Nairobi.
Platform Africa, as a long-standing partner of the Angaza Awards which seeks to recognise the talents and contribution of women in the financial sector across the African continent, would like to pay tribute to the tireless work and dedication of Nuru Mugambi, who was well known for her passion and energy, and her commitment to making a difference.
Nuru departed on 12 November 2024, at the Aga Khan University Hospital, where she had been receiving care for a rare autoimmune condition, Catastrophic Antiphospholipid Syndrome (CAPS), since September.
Speaking about their partnership, Samantha Seewoosurrun, Co-Founder of Platform Africa, said: “While I never had the pleasure of meeting Nuru in person, we had enjoyed very fruitful contacts over a number of years, and we were fully aligned in our belief in initiatives to support and celebrate the work of women entrepreneurs and leaders around the African continent. We were excited to promote the Angaza Awards year-on-year, and delighted to have seen some women from Mauritius as worthy winners. We are truly saddened by the passing of Nuru, who simply shone as a dynamic and vibrant individual, who will be remembered for her warmth and humour. She will be deeply missed by many people around the world whose lives she touched. Nuru leaves a wonderful legacy to be continued by others. May she rest in peace.”
Manisha Dookhony, Angaza Forum Awardee 2024, commented: “I have had the immense pleasure to cross paths with Nuru, first during the Angaza Forum, Kigali Summit. I loved how she was always full of life and energy, running around and multitasking at best! The last time we met was at the Angaza Forum Dialogue & Networking Luncheon in Nairobi in the end of May… We discussed the Manifesto for women in Investment and Finance. It is hard to imagine that less than 6 months later we are having to say our last goodbye to her. However, she is going to be living still, in my heart and in the hearts of all those whom she touched in her life. Goodbye dear friend.“
