blink by Emtel strengthens digital payment ecosystem in Rodrigues

Rodrigues, Mauritius  – blink by Emtel, a pioneering Fintech solution, has successfully concluded a week-long engagement in Rodrigues from September 25 to 29, 2024.

This initiative aimed to bolster relationships with local merchants and enhance the digital payment ecosystem, ensuring that businesses can leverage the benefits of digital transactions in a rapidly evolving financial landscape.

Understanding merchant needs, adopting new technologies

During the visit, the blink team focused on understanding the needs of various merchants, emphasising the significant advantages that digital payment solutions can bring to their operations. Many businesses in Rodrigues are recognising the potential of digital transactions, with a marked increase in the adoption of technologies like QR code payments.

“Our aim in Rodrigues was to empower merchants with digital solutions that can streamline their transactions and enhance customer experiences,” said Caleb Samy, Product Manager for Fintech at blink by Emtel. “By directly engaging with the community, we can better understand their unique challenges and how we can support them.”

The blink team visited a diverse range of merchants, gathering valuable insights into their experiences with digital payments. This engagement is crucial as Rodrigues continues to witness a shift toward these modern payment methods. The team also conducted training sessions focused on using blink’s QR code payment system, aiming to encourage merchants to promote QR transactions over traditional payments. This initiative helps streamline operations and enhances the overall customer experience.

Supporting restaurants with branding materials, gathering feedback

To increase its visibility and engagement in the region, blink distributed branded flanges, beach umbrellas, and receipt holders to local restaurants. These efforts not only promote blink’s services but also provide practical support to merchants during the busy tourist season. “Visibility is key for us in Rodrigues,” stated Ganessa Rangasamy, Key Account Manager at blink. “By equipping our merchants with materials, we promote our merchants while encouraging them to embrace digital payment solutions.”

The visit also presented an opportunity for blink to gather invaluable feedback from merchants about their experiences and expectations regarding digital payments. This feedback is essential for refining blink’s services to better cater to the unique needs of Rodrigues’ business community. The insights gained will play a pivotal role in shaping blink’s approach to supporting local merchants in their transition to modern payment methods.

blink will continue the digital journey, and this expansion reflects the growing acceptance of digital payment solutions in Rodrigues and the increasing demand for Fintech services.
