Campus Abroad, a leading name in global education services, recently concluded its highly successful Annual International Education Fair, which took place on November 23rd and 24th, 2024, at the Hennessy Park Hotel. The event attracted over 1,000 students, all eager to explore opportunities for higher education abroad. This year’s fair brought together 65 renowned universities from around the world, offering Mauritian students an unprecedented opportunity to connect with leading global educational institutions.
The event kicked off with a grand inaugural ceremony on November 22nd at the Gymkhana Club in Mauritius. The ceremony featured speeches from high-profile dignitaries, including Rajeshwari Jayasankar, Director of Campus Abroad, who highlighted the immense value of international education in today’s world. “Globalisation has changed the way the world works, and it is increasingly challenging to capture competence and technical skills in the market. Studying abroad is one of the best ways to acquire these valuable skills and access professional opportunities,” said Jayasankar. “The beauty of studying abroad lies in gaining a broader understanding of other cultures. Having access to people from different backgrounds enables individuals to think creatively, fostering flexibility and innovation. It is our hope that this fair will enable Mauritian students to explore these opportunities by interacting with representatives from various institutions.”
The event was attended by several high-level representatives from the diplomatic circle, including Goran Mandic, the Deputy High Commissioner of the UK to Mauritius, who delivered an inspiring speech. “Applying for a degree abroad can be a daunting and stressful process. That is why the Education Fairs, Campus Abroad organises, help facilitate tailored advice to thousands of Mauritian students by visiting UK university representatives,” said Mandic. “The UK remains a leader in world-class international education, offering a wide range of courses and programmes. Our longstanding partnership with Mauritius continues to benefit students seeking educational excellence. We have 21university representatives attending this year’s fair. Apart from participating in the fair, representatives are also conducting regional programmes across the island to inspire the next generation of students to pursue higher education in the UK. We believe that studying in the UK opens up numerous global opportunities, and this event is a great opportunity for Mauritian students to benefit from world-class international education offer.”
In her address, Kate Chamley, High Commissioner of Australia to Mauritius, emphasised the opportunities for Mauritian students in Australia. “Australia offers a high-quality education system and a diverse range of programs. We are committed to providing a unique learning experience for international students, and through strong partnerships with Mauritian institutions, we offer opportunities for world-class education along with invaluable cultural experiences,” Chamley explained. “Australia is a welcoming environment for international students, with extensive support to ensure their success.”
The event’s large scale and diverse representation illustrated the growing recognition of Mauritius as an emerging hub for international education. Universities from the UK, Australia, Canada, the US, and beyond presented students with options that align with their academic and career aspirations.
Another key speaker, Dhanjay Jhurry, Managing Director of UNICITI Education Hub, expressed his enthusiasm for international collaboration in education. “We are thrilled to be part of this event, which serves as a platform for students to explore various educational options,” Jhurry stated. “The growing focus on international studies, technology, and sustainability is reshaping the future of education. Universities are pivotal in developing the skills and knowledge necessary for the future workforce. By fostering partnerships between local and international institutions, we can create a vibrant and dynamic educational landscape in Mauritius.”
