Rogers Capital has unleashed a journey of transformation, growth, and exploration for finance professionals seeking taxation expertise and knowledge with the official launch of the Rogers Capital Finance & Tax Academy. The launch event will be held on the evening of December 2 at Restaurant Zakadi in Vivea Business Park, Moka.
This is also an opportunity for Rogers Capital to celebrate the 3rd anniversary of the creation of Rogers Capital Tax Specialists Ltd, recognising its dedication to excellence and its capacity to serve the local market and international clients independently.
Shameemah Abdool Raman, Head of the Finance & Tax Academy, explains, ”At the academy, our mission is to foster a community of lifelong learners by offering accessible, high-quality education that prepares them for success. We offer courses straddling the entire spectrum of taxation, from fundamentals to intermediate to advanced tax modules, besides tailor-made trainings for tax teams. My professional journey has been all about learning and knowledge sharing, and I feel privileged to pay it forward with the launch of this academy.”
What finance professionals can expect to gain from the courses
Ryan Allas, Managing Director for Tax, Rogers Capital, highlights, “This academy will focus on delivering high-quality training and education in finance and tax, designed to support professionals, students, and organisations in staying compliant and informed on regulatory matters like FATCA and CRS. The academy aims to be a trusted resource in these specialised areas, offering valuable insights, skills development, and industry-specific knowledge tailored to help participants navigate complex financial landscapes effectively.”
The introductory course on fundamentals of taxation seeks to provide participants with a solid understanding of the Mauritian tax system, including both Income Tax and Value Added Tax (VAT). Participants will be encouraged to explore key tax tasks such as tax computations, draft tax advice, handle tax investigations, and grasp basics of the interpretation of tax treaties.
At the next level, the intermediate course is designed to help participants pitch on advanced tax topics like interpretation of tax treaties and transfer pricing with intense tax advice. Finally, the advanced module is offered in affiliation with the prestigious BMR Legal India to help candidates prepare for Advanced Diplomas in International Taxation (ADIT) organised by the Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT). This affiliation underlines Rogers Capital’s commitment to delivering world-class training in the field of international taxation.
It may be noted that the duration of the Fundamentals of Mauritius Tax is 9-10 months and Advanced Tax Course programmes are completed over a duration of 9 months for Module 1 and 3.
Besides the above modules, the academy also offers tailor-made trainings in areas such as Corporate Tax; VAT; Pay As You Earn; Advanced Tax Concepts; International Taxation Aspects; FATCA/CRS, and Understanding the Companies Act and Directors’ Duties. In addition, participants will also be able to attend annual tax seminars where global tax developments will be thoroughly examined by international tax experts.
“The intention of the Academy is that our candidates should walk out through our doors with the required tax knowledge and confidence to make a real impact at work,” concludes Shameemah.
