Absa Mauritius supports women entrepreneurship

Absa Mauritius is proud to support the publication of Moris Ikonik, a book that celebrates Mauritius through its history, landscapes, and cultural heritage. The bank is the main sponsor of this publication, the very first project of In Other Words Editions, a newly founded publishing house by Mélissa Leclézio, Sandra Mussard, and Elena Boulart. More than just a cultural project, the release of this book also marks the beginning of an entrepreneurial adventure for these three women who have made writing their profession.

“We were captivated by this project from the moment it was presented. By supporting it, Absa Mauritius is contributing to the promotion of women entrepreneurship, which we see as a lever for empowering women and, more broadly, for economic development, as well as the recognition of local talents and the promotion of art and culture. This support is fully in line with our commitment to being an active force for good, contributing to building a more inclusive and sustainable society,” explained Jennifer Johnson, Head of Marketing and Corporate Relations at Absa Mauritius.

This book brings together several artists – writers, illustrators, photographers, and graphic designers – to put words, images, and colors on each of the themes discussed. In doing so, they deliver their own vision of Mauritius. Through 50 emblems, this book provides an authentic portrait of the country: culinary specialties, cultural events, religious celebrations, and even everyday objects, offering an immersive experience into what constitutes the Mauritian identity.

“Moris Ikonik perfectly illustrates our purpose: Empowering Africa’s tomorrow, together… one story at a time. If this work brings together the vibrant stories of Mauritius, it is also the result of inspired individuals, driven by an entrepreneurial spirit and overflowing creativity. It is also a profoundly human project in search of authenticity, reflecting our values, just as our promise: Your story matters,” continues Jennifer Johnson.

By supporting Moris Ikonik, Absa Mauritius reaffirms its commitment to promoting local identity, women entrepreneurship, and a more inclusive future. This project is a true celebration of Mauritian talents and the positive impact we seek to have in society, one story at a time.
