Ebène, 09 June 2025 – The National Productivity and Competitiveness Council (NPCC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Vinaye Ancharaz as its new Executive Director, effective Monday, 09 July 2025.
A distinguished economist with over 25 years of experience, Dr. Ancharaz is a recognised expert in international trade, economic policy, and sustainable development, with a strong focus on Mauritius and Africa, where his expertise spans productivity enhancement, competitiveness strategies, industrial development and inclusive growth.
Dr. Ancharaz holds a Ph.D. in International Economics and Finance from Brandeis University (USA), an MBA from Imperial College London, and a B.Sc (Hons) in Economics from the University of Mauritius. A Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute (FCMI, UK), he has advised major organisations such as the World Bank, United Nations, European Commission and African Development Bank. His distinguished career includes roles as an International Economic Consultant for the London School of Economics (LSE) and the Commonwealth Secretariat, as well as senior positions at the International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development (ICTSD) and the African Development Bank.
A prolific researcher and speaker, Dr. Ancharaz has authored over 50 publications and delivered presentations at more than 60 international conferences, including forums at the WTO, UNCTAD, and Chatham House. His contributions to economics have been widely recognised, including his inclusion among the 100 Most Influential Economists by the Copenhagen Consensus Center, the David Begg Prize from Imperial College London and prestigious scholarships such as the Fulbright and WTO Chair appointments.
In his statement, Dr. Ancharaz shared his vision: “I am honored to lead the NPCC at this critical juncture. My focus will be on advancing productivity-led growth, strengthening public-private partnerships, and embedding sustainable practices across sectors. By leveraging data-driven strategies and fostering innovation, we aim to position Mauritius as a competitive force in the region and the global economy.”
