The appointment of Bheenick is considered by the SBM Bank (Mauritius) as a strategic step, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen its role as a reference in terms of financial partnership in Mauritius and the region.
Considered a seasoned, leading, and experienced economist, the new chairperson brings to the SBM a high level of expertise forged during a career characterised by being at the helm of several national and international institutions.
Prior to his appointment, he had held several strategic ranks as Governor at the Bank of Mauritius, having contributed to the stability and credibility of the local financial system while representing Mauritius at several leading global institutions, while playing an active role in formulating economic and financial policies shaping the country’s destiny.
