Chaîne des Rôtisseurs Mauritius welcomes Guest of Honour Shabnam Nayer, Bailli Délégué of Kenya to celebrate culture and gastronomy

The Chaîne des Rôtisseurs Mauritius is honoured to welcome Shabnam Nayer, Bailli Délégué (National President) of Kenya and Membre du Conseil Magistral, as Guest of Honour. This prestigious gathering held at IL Corallo, Trou Aux Biches Beachcomber, celebrated gastronomy, fellowship and the unique heritage of the world’s oldest and most distinguished international gastronomic society where the event also celebrated the intronization of 11 new members, marking a proud moment of growth and continuity for the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs.

The Chaîne des Rôtisseurs is considered as one of the world’s oldest and most prestigious international gastronomic societies, bringing together over 25,000 members across 80 countries in a shared passion for fine dining, culinary excellence, and fellowship. The Mauritius arm was founded in 2018 by Graeme Roberson with an objective to celebrate the island’s rich culinary heritage, promote gastronomic excellence, and strengthen fellowship among food and wine enthusiasts.

Shabnam Nayer, a pillar of the Chaîne in East Africa, brings with her a wealth of experience, passion and vision, having transformed regional Bailliages into vibrant communities that celebrate gastronomy and fellowship. Having joined the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs in 2007, she has since risen through its ranks, assisting growth across Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania while forging connections that unite cultures through cuisine and camaraderie. Most recently in June 2025, she was honoured in Paris with the coveted Commander Pin, a recognition of her remarkable contributions to the Chaîne’s international community.

As leader of Kenya’s dynamic Bailliages, Ms. Nayer has worked with an unwavering commitment to bring people together around the table, supporting both culinary excellence and charitable causes. Her efforts include the founding of the East African Chaîne group and support for the Alice for Children project, through which the ACCR (Association Caritative de la Chaîne des Rôtisseurs) donated a gelato machine to a Food Academy, empowering underprivileged youth through culinary arts.

Her presence in Mauritius marks an important milestone for the local Bailliage. With gastronomy in Mauritius celebrated worldwide, the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs aims to grow its network of passionate members on the island, strengthening ties with the regional and global community and inspiring a new generation of food enthusiasts, professionals, and connoisseurs.

“The Chaîne des Rôtisseurs is more than an organisation. It is a way of life, an enduring source of fellowship, discovery and joy. I look forward to embracing Mauritius within our Sub-Saharan family of Bailliages, welcoming members to Kenya and sharing the warmth of East African hospitality, as we all play a role in the Chaîne’s inevitable evolution,” says Shabnam Nayer.

The event brought together lovers of fine dining, exquisite wines and international fellowship while reflecting the Chaîne’s growing presence in Mauritius, where culture, gastronomy, and camaraderie are celebrated, and more Mauritians are invited to join this passion for the culinary arts.

“It was an honor to welcome Ms. Shabnam Nayer from Kenya and to celebrate the intronisation of our new members. Her presence highlights the spirit of international camaraderie that defines the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs. With the induction of new members, we continue to grow our fraternity in Mauritius, promoting a shared passion for culinary excellence, fine dining, and friendship,” concluded Gerhard Hecker, President of the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs Mauritius.

Founded in Paris in 1950 and tracing its heritage back to 1248, the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs is an international gastronomic society dedicated to promoting fine dining, culinary arts, and friendship. With nearly 25,000 members, the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs is an International Association of Gastronomy now established in over 80 countries, bringing together enthusiasts who share the same values of quality, fine dining, the encouragement of the culinary arts, and the pleasures of the table. The distinctive character of our association is to bring together amateurs and professionals, from all over the world, whether they are hoteliers, restaurateurs, executive chefs, or sommeliers, in the appreciation of fine cuisine.
