African Leadership College of Higher Education celebrates 10 years on island, hosting high-impact events

ALCHE campus – Beau Plan Smart City | This year marks a decade since the African Leadership University (ALU) embarked on its pioneering journey in higher education with the launch of the African Leadership College (ALC) in Mauritius during the year 2015. To honour the ten years of impact across ALC, ALU, and ALCHE, the institution hosted a series of milestone events throughout the year, with more celebrations taking place throughout October. As part of the decennial anniversary, ALCHE had already launched a series of community-driven initiatives earlier this year.

It all started in April with the support of local NGO Lakaz Lespwar through a donation drive and an upcycling day in Solitude. ALCHE, later, partnered with Friends of the Environment in July for a tree-planting activity at La Citadelle to create a self-sustaining forest on Petite Montagne, in the heart of Port Louis. This month of celebrations was launched on October 3 at the ALCHE campus with a panel discussion titled “Technology, AI & Africa’s Innovation Leap.”

As part of a leadership series on Africa’s Grand Challenges and Opportunities, this thought-provoking debate focused on the use of AI and emerging technologies for transformative innovation. The event was attended by the Minister of Information, Technology, Communication, and Innovation, Dr. Avinash Ramtohul, with a panel of experts comprised of the CEO of Mauritius Telecom, Veemal Gungadin, and Head of IBL Technology & Digital Transformation, Diya Nababsing-Jetshan.

An innovative education model

The celebrations will continue with the B.O.L.D Summit 2025, which takes place from October 29-31 on the ALCHE campus. This global event, themed “Education for an Unwritten Future,” will host thought leaders, educators, entrepreneurs, and changemakers to explore the future of education in Africa and beyond.

The festivities will culminate on October 31, with the hosting of a Decennial Gala Dinner in Balaclava. Founder of the African Leadership Group Fred Swaniker, will honour these two events with his presence, where both will be attended by students, alumni, thought leaders, dignitaries, sponsors, ALCHE leadership team, academics, policymakers, and strategic partners across Africa.

“Throughout the past 10 years, ALCHE has been tirelessly promoting essential values such as ethical leadership, drive, compassion, and purpose by offering an innovative and unique education model. We are very proud of our growth and look forward to welcoming many people who have helped us tremendously during those years to become the state-of-the-art education platform that we all know today,” stated CEO of ALCHE Veda Sunassee.
