On 8 October 2025, SKC Surat held its annual SKC Safer Award Ceremony at the Hilton Resort Mauritius, celebrating the commitment of farmers dedicated to producing safer fruits and vegetables that meet international standards. The event honoured their continuous efforts in fostering a healthier Mauritius.
The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Agro-Industry, Food Security, Blue Economy and Fisheries, The Honorable Dr Arvin Boolell, G.O.S.K., who delivered a keynote address highlighting the importance of innovation, trust, and adaptation in advancing sustainable agriculture. The Minister commended SKC Surat’s ongoing dedication to supporting farmers and promoting good agricultural practices, smart farming technologies, and precision agriculture to achieve food self-sufficiency and resilience against challenges such as climate change.
Mr Suren Surat, CEO of SKC Surat, emphasised that the SKC Safer programme is a unique and exclusive initiative designed for the Mauritian market. Focused on Sustained Agriculture, Controlled Supply Chain Management, and Checked Fruits & Vegetables, the programme represents significant investments in specialised transport, advanced technology, comprehensive farmer training, and continuous support — fully funded by SKC Surat. This initiative aligns with the Ministry’s long-term vision and aims to establish SKC Surat as the pioneer of safe produce in Mauritius.
Ten exceptional farmers were recognised for their outstanding performance and dedication to producing safer fruits and vegetables that contribute to national well-being.
Awardees included:
Second Runner-up: Vivek Bhujun
First Runner-up: Satiadeo Dookhee
Best Performer: Neel Kumar Jeewon
Most Cooperative Planter Awardees:
Ramjeet Deokeeparsadsingh, Roshan Hosany, Shanjesh Dhorbul, Ravinnath Puttur, Waheeda Jhaumeer, Ramraj Juggoo, and Swarage Ballchand.
In addition to celebrating these achievements, SKC Surat announced the launch of a public awareness campaign to educate the wider community on the benefits of SKC Safer. The company is also actively participating in the October Pink Cancer Prevention Workshop to promote the health advantages of consuming safe, quality produce.
The ceremony concluded with a networking finger buffet, allowing guests to share ideas and celebrate their shared vision of a safer, healthier Mauritius.
