We speak to Abler Group’s Shahannah B. Abdoolakhan, Founder & Chief Executive Officer, and Kate Rouillard, Business Development Manager, to understand why everyone in the organisation must play a part in AML/CFT training.
Shahannah explains how e-learning helps to reach employees at every level – towards ensuring an organisation-wide approach to compliance. Meanwhile, Kate unfolds how Abler’s e-learning platform is steadily gaining traction as it helps people understand, not just comply, taking a human approach to an otherwise technical subject.
With more than 1,700 compliance professionals enrolling in their e-learning courses, Shahannah notes that Abler is changing how organisations see training, view compliance and act on red flags – making compliance a shared commitment to doing the right things, and doing them the right way.
Edited excerpts from an exclusive interview:
1. Why should everyone, not just compliance professionals, care about AML/CFT training?
Shahannah: Because financial crime does not stop at the compliance department. It can enter an organisation through anyone, from a director or a client relationship manager to someone in operations or finance. AML and CFT training matters because everyone plays a role in protecting the organisation’s integrity.
Of course, there are regulatory requirements, but the real power of training is awareness. When people understand why compliance matters, they start to see red flags they may have missed before. It changes how they think and act.
AML training isn’t just for compliance teams. It’s like knowing where the fire exit is: everyone benefits from being prepared.
It is not about memorising laws or ticking boxes. It is about protecting trust, reputation and the credibility of the financial system. Everyone has a part to play in that story.
2. What makes e-learning such a powerful tool for professionals who already have a lot on their plate?
Shahannah: We all know the challenge: juggling meetings, deadlines, and a flood of emails – and then being asked to attend training. E-learning changes that. It gives flexibility: learn at your own pace, on your own schedule, from anywhere.
You can even complete a module while waiting for your coffee and, if the coffee’s strong enough, maybe two.
It is not static or boring. Our platform is interactive, visual and designed to keep people engaged. You can pause, go back and learn in short bursts that fit naturally into your day. For busy professionals, that is a huge advantage. They get the knowledge they need without the stress of fitting it into an already packed schedule.
3. How does Abler’s e-learning platform make AML and CFT training practical and engaging?
Kate: At Abler, we wanted to make training something people look forward to rather than something they have to get through. We focus on real-world examples, case studies and stories that make people think.
Compliance is serious, but learning about it can still be interesting and relevant. We promise: no death by PowerPoint.
Our courses are built around international and local AML and CFT standards, so professionals meet their regulatory requirements with confidence. The platform tracks progress automatically, generates certificates and gives managers a clear view of completion rates. It is smooth, modern and built to make training genuinely effective.
4. What kind of courses can organisations find on the platform, and how easy is it to get started?
Kate: Our e-learning platform offers a comprehensive range of courses for every level – from all-rounded AML/CFT modules to more specific programmes. Topics span customer due diligence, sanctions, terrorist and proliferation financing, beneficial ownership and reporting obligations, as well as specialised areas like fraud prevention, ESG and greenwashing awareness, conflicts of interest and whistleblowing, and cutting-edge subjects such as AI-driven cybersecurity.
All content is kept current ensuring alignment with evolving regulations and global best practices.
Getting started is simple: whether you need access for one user or an entire organisation, we tailor onboarding to your needs and make the process seamless with progress tracking, testing and certification included.
5. What has the response been so far, and what feedback have you received from participants?
Shahannah: The feedback has been amazing. More companies are choosing e-learning because it is efficient, cost-effective and easy to manage. What stands out most is that people say our courses feel human. They are practical, relatable and easy to follow.
One participant told us, “For the first time, I actually enjoyed an AML course.” That kind of feedback means a lot because it shows we are breaking the old perception that compliance training has to be dull.
Abler’s e-learning platform has grown steadily because it helps people understand, not just comply. It is changing how organisations see training: not as an obligation, but as a shared commitment to doing things right.
