Catalyst Now Mauritius: A Collective Momentum to Accelerate the Sustainable Transition and Youth Upskilling

Catalyst Now, a global movement of social innovators committed to systems transformation to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), is strengthening its presence and impact in Mauritius with the launch of the Catalyst Now Mauritius Chapter. The chapter is led by ReUSE Revamp, a pioneering Mauritian social enterprise in the circular economy and digital inclusion. The official launch of the Mauritian branch took place on 28 January.

Mahendranath Busgopaul, pioneer of Catalyst Now Mauritius, will provide his support and expertise to guide the development and coordination of the local chapter.

“I decided to launch the Mauritian chapter of Catalyst Now after witnessing how international collaboration and the genuine commitment of its members create tangible impact. Catalyst Now offers an intergenerational space where stakeholders can share concrete ideas to address challenges related to resources, innovation, and sustainable development—while transforming dialogue into collective action,” explains François Mark, Chairperson of the Catalyst Now Mauritius Chapter.

Catalyst Now brings together an international community of committed actors — social entrepreneurs, institutions, companies, NGOs, and innovators — around a shared conviction: authentic collaboration is a key lever for generating large-scale systemic change. This momentum is further confirmed by the Impact Report 2024–2025.

A Mauritian Chapter Rooted in Local Realities

The Mauritian branch operates within a context of high climate vulnerability, marked by coastal erosion, rising sea levels, and increased flood risks. Catalyst Now Mauritius serves as a convergence platform for public authorities, businesses, and civil society, focusing on climate resilience, digital empowerment, and the development of a sustainable economy that generates green jobs.

“Catalyst Now Mauritius addresses the specific vulnerabilities of Mauritius as a Small Island Developing State. With sea levels rising by 5 to 8 millimeters per year, coastal erosion already exceeding 37 kilometers, and nearly 70% of local disasters linked to heavy rainfall, it is essential to implement climate resilience solutions, smart infrastructure, and nature-based approaches—while creating sustainable jobs and strengthening social equity,” emphasizes François Mark.

ReUSE Revamp and the Circular Economy as Drivers of Inclusion and Youth Upskilling

Founded in 2023, ReUSE Revamp operates at the heart of the digital and environmental transition by transforming electronic waste into digital access tools for students, job seekers, and non-profit organizations. Its work is guided by the 7 R’s of Sustainable Tech, ensuring a circular and responsible approach to technology.

Beyond equipment redistribution, ReUSE Revamp places strong emphasis on youth upskilling, equipping young people with the skills needed to contribute to the energy transition, the circular economy, and STEM disciplines. Through hands-on programs, STEM challenges, and renewable energy workshops, young participants are empowered to become skilled and innovative sustainability leaders.

Towards 2026: From Dialogue to Action

The next phase of the Catalyst Now Mauritius Chapter will be driven by the Conversation Cafés 2026 series—short, focused gatherings designed to turn dialogue into concrete projects. Priorities include the circular economy, the energy transition toward 60% renewable electricity by 2035, and Blue Carbon Finance.

“The Conversation Cafés will help generate tangible initiatives around the circular economy, renewable energy, and strengthening STEM skills among young people. This approach combines education, innovation, and collective action to create lasting national impact,” concludes François Mark.
