Cascavelle, March 29: The Uniciti International Education Hub (UIEH) has announced the holding of an international seminar on ‘Transnational Education ’ (TNE), set to take place on March 25 and 26 on the island. The high-level conference will bring together experts, policy makers and academicians to help exchange views on the future and impact of TNE, by laying stress on partnership, innovation, quality assurance, and contribution to the global level.
The opening ceremony will have as guest of honor the Minister of Tertiary Education, Science, and Research, Dr. Kaviraj Sharma Sukon, who will underline the need to help position the island as a hub for higher education.
In the start, the TNE was limiting itself to study programmes offered abroad, enabling students to follow distance learning education at reduced cost. In an interconnected world, this model plays an increasingly important role by broadening access to higher quality, fostering international academic collaboration, and strengthening knowledge circulation. Since then, TNE has evolved in a significant manner by extending its arms towards innovation and the leveraging of local competencies, complemented by traditional learning.
The conference will focus on four key themes, namely innovation, global partnership, regulation and quality assurance, as well as the impact of cross-border education. The plenary sessions and discussion panels will enable participants to share their experiences and identity paths to foster concrete collaboration.
The event includes international speakers such as the Higher Education President & Education Advisor at the Qatar Foundation, Dr. Francisco Marmolejo. Based in Doha, the eminent speaker is at the helm of several higher education initiatives, including Qatar Foundation, while supporting the development of 8 international universities based in Education City, offering 70 academic programmes to students from more than 110 countries.
“The TNE is today an important lever to connect institutions, researchers, and students globally. Initiatives such as this conference help to share concrete experience and identify innovative approaches to buttress the quality and impact of higher education,” Dr. Francisco Marmolejo commented.
While the Managing Director at UIEH, Professeur Dhanjay Jhurry, underlined, « The conference embodies our commitment to make UIEH a reference centre for international education in Mauritius and the Indian Ocean region. It will help enable participants to acquire new perspectives and strengthen their networks in a global environment in constant evolution. »
The event has received the support of global academic partners such as Times Higher Education as Knowledge Partner, while TNE Institute and the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) is among the Supporting Partners.
