The Mauritius Cricket Federation (MCF) has announced that it successfully hosted the first-ever Women’s Softball Cricket Championship in Mauritius, held on April 25 and 26 at the SSR National Cricket Ground.
This landmark event marks a significant step forward in the development of cricket in Mauritius, promoting inclusivity and expanding opportunities for women in the sport. The tournament featured eight competitive teams, playing a total of 16 league matches, followed by 2 semi-finals and the final.

Building Cricket in Mauritius
Cricket in Mauritius has witnessed steady progress in recent years. In 2023, the Mauritius National Men’s Team participated in its first-ever international tournament in South Africa. Earlier this year, in February, the MCF successfully organized the first-ever Junior Cricket Tournament (Under-18).
Tournament Highlights
The tournament concluded with an exciting final between Tropical Thunder and Sunset Smashers, where the latter emerged victorious. While the Sunset Smashers have emerged as Champions, followed by Tropical Thunder as Runners-Ups, Individual Awards went to: Player of the Tournament: Lavina; Best Batter: Meghna; Best Bowler: Lavina; Best Fielder: Kashmira.

Special Participation Highlight
A special highlight of the tournament was the participation of the Canma Queens team, comprising participants from Miss India Worldwide Mauritius, who stepped onto the cricket field for the very first time.

The President of the Mauritius Cricket Federation, Saleem Bhat, commented: “This tournament is a historic step for cricket in Mauritius. It reflects our vision of making the sport inclusive and creating opportunities for women to participate and excel. This is just the beginning of a strong future for women’s cricket in the country.”
