WE-CONNECT 5th edition: How global shifts are reshaping corporate governance in Mauritius

The Mauritius Institute of Directors (MIoD) hosted the fifth edition of WE-CONNECT on Tuesday, 30 June 2026, at Le Suffren Hotel & Marina in Port Louis. The networking platform, exclusively dedicated to MIoD members including business leaders, directors, executives and professionals, was held under the theme “Leading Through Global Change: How AI, Talent and Geopolitics are Reshaping Business in Mauritius.” This edition welcomed two experts from the Boston Consulting Group (BCG): Trudi Makhaya, Partner at BCG Johannesburg, and Toivo Hensgens, Partner at BCG Nairobi.

Launched in August 2024, WE-CONNECT has established itself as a flagship event for the MIoD community, combining high-quality professional networking with thought-provoking discussions on corporate governance and economic transformation. For this fifth edition, the Institute partnered with BCG for the first time as its Knowledge Partner, focusing on the global trends that are directly reshaping Mauritius’ business landscape.

Sheila Ujoodha, CEO of MIoD, said:

“The fifth edition of WE-CONNECT reflects MIoD’s ongoing commitment to providing its members and the wider Mauritian business community with access to world-class strategic expertise. Directors and business leaders need the right frameworks to navigate geopolitics, artificial intelligence and the evolving talent landscape, all of which are fundamentally transforming the business environment. This first partnership with BCG marks an important milestone in that journey, and we extend our sincere thanks to Trudi, Toivo and the entire BCG team for their commitment, intellectual generosity and the quality of this collaboration.”

Trudi Makhaya, Partner at BCG Johannesburg, shared:

“This evening’s discussions with the Mauritian business community highlighted how geopolitics has become a central strategic consideration for businesses. It is reshaping international trade, capital flows and regional competitiveness. For Mauritius, positioned at the crossroads of several major global forces, the challenge for boards of directors is to translate uncertainty into clear strategic decisions regarding capital allocation, market positioning and organisational resilience. We thank MIoD for bringing these discussions directly to Mauritian boardrooms, where they can truly influence decision-making.”

Toivo Hensgens, Partner at BCG Nairobi, added:

“This evening demonstrated how artificial intelligence and talent management have become inseparable from corporate governance. AI is redefining work, skills and career paths at an unprecedented pace, making it a strategic priority for boards of directors. For Mauritius, which faces unique talent market dynamics, the priority is to design work models and professional development pathways that are suited to an AI-enabled environment. We thank MIoD for placing these issues firmly on the agenda for its members with the depth and rigour they require.”

As a trusted corporate governance partner, MIoD continues to create platforms and programmes that not only address the current needs of its members but also prepare them to excel in an evolving business environment shaped by economic transformation, strategic agility and increasing expectations around responsible leadership.

MIoD–BCG partnership

Alongside the networking event, MIoD and BCG are delivering a series of strategic sessions for the Mauritian business community throughout the week:

  • 1 July 2026: “Seizing Opportunity in a Shifting Geopolitical Landscape”, led by Trudi Makhaya, Partner, BCG Johannesburg.
  • 2 July 2026: “The Future of Work: Building Competitive Talent Pipelines in the Age of AI”, led by Toivo Hensgens, Partner, BCG Nairobi.
  • Exclusive “C-Suite Perspectives” sessions bringing together senior executives from various industries to discuss three key themes: geopolitical challenges for the banking sector, geopolitics and multi-sector businesses, and AI and talent strategy.
  • Strategic sessions delivered directly within Mauritian companies alongside their executive leadership teams.
