TIBOK, a startup from La Turbine, develops a digital health solution to facilitate access to care

From teleconsultation to chronic disease monitoring, TIBOK, a startup incubated at La Turbine, offers a digital health solution built around My Medical Intelligence, its clinical artificial intelligence engine, with the ambition of facilitating access to quality care in Mauritius and, eventually, on a regional and African scale.

Access to healthcare is evolving alongside digital technology. In Mauritius, a new solution aims to contribute to this transformation: TIBOK, a digital health platform designed and developed locally. While it offers teleconsultation among its services, TIBOK is above all intended as a broader health solution, designed to support the patient throughout their entire care journey.

“TIBOK was born from a conviction shaped by my own experience: nearly thirty years of medical practice convinced me that remote access to care only makes sense if the quality of treatment can be guaranteed, regardless of which doctor is consulted or where the patient is located. It was to address this challenge that My Medical Intelligence was developed — the clinical artificial intelligence engine that lies at the heart of TIBOK. I could not launch a teleconsultation platform without guaranteeing a strictly identical quality of service for every patient, regardless of which doctor sees them. It was precisely this realization that led me to design My Medical Intelligence. Without it, I would never have launched TIBOK. It structures, secures, and standardizes every medical decision on the platform, whether in person or remotely,” explains Dr. Stéphane Bach, founder of TIBOK

A platform that goes beyond telecommunications

In practical terms, TIBOK allows patients to access various health services through a single platform. Teleconsultation is one of the platform’s entry points, but it is part of a broader care journey that also includes chronic disease monitoring, referral to specialists, and second medical opinions. TIBOK is also interconnected with a large part of Mauritius’s private healthcare ecosystem, including pharmacies, laboratories, imaging services, clinic emergency departments, and insurers. This interconnection allows the platform to go beyond a single, isolated consultation and instead help organize a more complete care journey.

Addressing the challenges of chronic disease

Chronic disease monitoring is another major focus for TIBOK. In Mauritius, chronic diseases represent a major public health challenge. To address this, TIBOK integrates a chronic monitoring module directly into its application, enabling users to track blood pressure, blood sugar, and weight without needing any third-party tools. Proactive alerts help identify changes that require particular attention. The goal is to move from a model of occasional consultations to one of continuous monitoring — a shift that is especially important for patients living with a chronic condition.

For Dr. Stéphane Bach, the ambition is above all one of more equitable access to care. He adds: “Our innovation is having a doctor in your pocket, on your phone, with the same standard of quality whether you’re in Port Louis, in the south of the island, or in Rodrigues. Geography or distance from a hospital should never compromise access to quality care. This approach relies on a team of Mauritian doctors, all registered with the Medical Council of Mauritius, and it is what allows TIBOK to operate today within Mauritius’s healthcare sector.”

Support for Project Development

TIBOK’s development also benefited from support provided by La Turbine. This support played an important role in turning a medical conviction into a structured project.

“Above all, entrepreneurship is a human story. My first contact with La Turbine was a high-quality, sincere exchange that immediately set the tone. Then I met the fantastic team, capable of finding the right solution for each of us and opening doors to top-level experts and coaches. They gave us access to a valuable network,” he notes.

This support was also sustained over time, with continuity maintained within the La Turbine team. For TIBOK, this stability made it possible to consolidate the project, document it, and prepare it for presentation to institutional and private partners.

From Mauritius to Africa

While TIBOK is currently operational in Mauritius, its ambition is to expand across the Indian Ocean region and the African continent, where access to healthcare remains a major challenge for many developing countries. The long-term goal is to enable other healthcare systems to rely on a solution designed to work both in person and remotely, while benefiting from a structured clinical framework.

This regional ambition is first and foremost rooted in a strong local foundation. TIBOK is designed entirely in Mauritius by a Mauritian team and currently operates with its own Mauritian doctors. This local grounding also represents a matter of technological sovereignty in a sector as strategic as healthcare.

TIBOK aims to continue its development in Mauritius while working to open new avenues of collaboration with public and private healthcare players, and subsequently with countries across the region. The ambition is to demonstrate that a solution developed in a small island state can not only address local challenges, but also help provide answers to issues of access and continuity of care on a much larger scale.

Eva, a virtual assistant available in english, french and creole.

TIBOK includes Eva, its AI-powered virtual assistant, capable of interacting in Mauritian Creole, French, and English, making the platform simpler and more accessible to as many people as possible. Far more than a simple conversational tool, Eva functions as a true voice assistant: she responds to people seeking information about TIBOK’s services, resolves all kinds of issues — including technical ones — and guides users through every step of their journey. Connected to the platform’s messaging system and customer database, Eva can recognize whether the person she’s speaking with is already a customer and adapt her response accordingly. By allowing everyone to communicate in Creole, French, or English, TIBOK fosters more natural exchanges and improves understanding of the information shared. Eva can be connected to all of the platform’s services, and this is just the beginning — she will soon also serve as an assistant to TIBOK’s medical team. For TIBOK, innovation in digital health does not rely solely on the technology used, but also on the ability to make that technology genuinely accessible to the population. Eva is available now on WhatsApp.
