Appointment gives Canadian and Mauritian companies an on-the-ground point of contact in Port Louis, following CMTIV’s July mission to Mauritius.
The Canada Mauritius Trade and Investment Venture (CMTIV) has appointed Mauritian business leader Georgina Ragaven as Vice-President, Chamber Relations, Mauritius. The role establishes an on-the-ground point of contact in Port Louis for companies working across the Canada–Mauritius corridor.
The corridor is unusually lopsided. According to Global Affairs Canada, the Canadian direct investment position in Mauritius stood at $4.9 billion in 2023, while two-way merchandise trade between the two countries amounted to $33.2 million in the same year. The scale of Canadian investment underscores Mauritius’s significance within Canada’s economic engagement with Africa. Canadian commerce, by contrast, has barely engaged.
Closing that gap requires sustained local engagement. The appointment follows CMTIV’s July 2026 mission to Mauritius, during which the organisation met exporters with established international distribution, corporate services and capital markets firms, and the Economic Development Board. CMTIV President and Founder Padminee Chundunsing delivered the keynote at the EDB SheTrades session, and CMTIV representatives appeared on Interfaces on the Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation.
Ragaven’s mandate covers three areas:
• Building CMTIV’s chamber and stakeholder relationships across the Mauritian private sector
• Leading local private-sector outreach and serving as the direct contact for businesses and institutions seeking to engage CMTIV in Mauritius
• Feeding market intelligence back to the Canadian leadership and building the pipeline for sector-specific business missions
