Qatar is strengthening its ambitions to become a leading regional hub for innovation, entrepreneurship and advanced technology investment through a new strategic engagement between Invest Qatar, Aurion Capital and LG NOVA, the Silicon Valley-based North America Innovation Centre for LG Electronics. Announced during a special edition of the Qatar Economic Forum Powered by Bloomberg, held on the sidelines of the 2026 United Nations General Assembly in New York, the collaboration brings together Qatar’s investment promotion capabilities, Aurion Capital’s global investment network and LG NOVA’s technology innovation expertise.
The three parties have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) establishing a framework to explore opportunities for regional investment, innovation-led programmes and the commercialisation of emerging technologies. The initiative is intended to support high-potential businesses, attract private-sector investment and strengthen Qatar’s position as a destination for companies seeking to expand across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. The collaboration will focus on a range of high-growth sectors, including artificial intelligence (AI), digital health, financial technology (FinTech), digital infrastructure, sports, media and entertainment. Through targeted innovation programmes and scale-up support, the partners aim to create stronger connections between international investors, technology developers, entrepreneurs and industry stakeholders.
A key element of the initiative is the anticipated establishment of a new hub at Qatar Science & Technology Park (QSTP). The proposed facility would serve as a regional platform for LG NOVA-affiliated technologies and ventures, helping advanced technology businesses explore opportunities in Qatar and expand into neighbouring markets.
Positioning Qatar as a gateway for global innovation
The agreement reflects Qatar’s broader ambition to diversify its economy by attracting investment into knowledge-based industries and strengthening its research, development and innovation ecosystem. With a strategic location connecting major international markets, an established investment environment and a growing focus on digital infrastructure, Qatar is seeking to position itself as a base from which technology companies can test new solutions, commercialise products and build regional operations.
The partnership is expected to support these objectives by connecting international innovation networks with local capabilities and investment opportunities. Through collaboration with national stakeholders, Invest Qatar will help identify opportunities for innovation programmes and provide tailored facilitation and advisory support to Aurion Capital and companies affiliated with LG NOVA that are considering establishing or expanding their presence in the country.
Sheikh Ali bin Alwaleed Al-Thani, CEO of Invest Qatar, said: “This strategic collaboration reflects the multilateral strength of Qatar’s value proposition. Our world-class research and development (R&D) ecosystem, robust talent pipeline and pro-business regulatory environment position Qatar as an ideal platform to test, deploy and commercialise advanced technologies. Coupled with our strategic location and future-ready digital infrastructure, Qatar offers international investors a gateway to the MENA region and a natural pathway for sustainable regional expansion.” The emphasis on commercialisation is particularly significant. Beyond attracting technology companies, the initiative seeks to create conditions in which innovative solutions can move from development and testing towards practical applications, commercial opportunities and wider regional adoption.
Connecting global capital with emerging technologies
Aurion Capital will bring its international investment perspective to the collaboration, helping explore opportunities to connect capital, strategic resources and technology ventures across the Americas, Asia, the Gulf and other emerging markets. For high-growth companies, access to investment is only one part of the expansion equation. Establishing relationships with local partners, understanding market requirements and identifying routes to commercial adoption are equally important. The proposed collaboration seeks to bring these elements together, helping promising businesses navigate new markets and build sustainable regional operations.
Ali Diallo, Founding CEO of Aurion Capital, stated: “At Aurion Capital, we believe the future of innovation will be built through stronger connections between global markets and ecosystems. Our mission is to mobilize capital and strategic resources across America, Asia, the Gulf and emerging markets to create enduring economic value and accelerate the growth of transformative technologies. Qatar’s ambition, investment ecosystem, and strategic position between East and West make it one of the world’s most compelling destinations for innovation-led growth. Together with Invest Qatar and LG NOVA, we look forward to building a platform that helps scale world-class companies, unlock new investment opportunities, and strengthen the flow of innovation across regions.” Aurion Capital and LG NOVA may also explore the deployment of their global innovation capabilities and investment platforms to strengthen technology testing, localisation and commercialisation in Qatar.
Advancing AI and next-generation business opportunities
For LG NOVA, the partnership represents an opportunity to strengthen connections between its global innovation ecosystem and Qatar’s investment and business environment. Artificial intelligence is reshaping industries and creating new opportunities for businesses across sectors ranging from healthcare and financial services to infrastructure, media and entertainment. As companies seek to translate technological advances into commercially sustainable products and services, partnerships between innovators, investors and established industry players are becoming increasingly important.
The proposed Qatar hub is expected to provide a regional platform through which LG NOVA-affiliated ventures can explore new markets, build relationships and pursue opportunities for growth. Sokwoo Rhee, EVP of Corporate Innovation for LG Electronics and Head of LG NOVA, stated: “The next technology evolution, driven by AI, is creating extensive opportunities for new business and industry growth, across all sectors. By exploring these new opportunities with Invest Qatar and Aurion Capital we’re strengthening our capabilities to build meaningful businesses that will shape our future,” He added: “Our innovation process brings collaborators together to create impactful change, and by working with Invest Qatar, spearheaded by Aurion Capital, we’ll be able to connect our ecosystems across the world.”
The partnership’s focus extends beyond AI alone. By covering digital health, financial technology and digital infrastructure alongside sports, media and entertainment, the initiative reflects the breadth of sectors in which technology-driven innovation can create new business opportunities.
A platform for regional expansion and economic diversification
Under the MoU, Invest Qatar will work closely with Aurion Capital and LG NOVA to plan and design innovation-led programmes in collaboration with key national stakeholders. It will also provide tailored support to affiliated companies seeking to establish or expand operations in Qatar. The anticipated hub at Qatar Science & Technology Park is central to this ambition. By providing a regional base for LG NOVA-affiliated technologies and ventures, it is expected to facilitate connections between innovators, investors and industry partners while supporting companies seeking to expand across the GCC and the wider MENA region. The collaboration aligns with Qatar’s wider economic diversification objectives and the priorities identified under its Third National Development Strategy (NDS3), particularly the ambition to strengthen research, development and innovation while attracting high-quality private-sector investment.
Although the MoU establishes a framework for exploring cooperation rather than confirming specific investment commitments or commercial outcomes, it signals a shared intention to develop stronger links between international innovation ecosystems and Qatar’s growing technology ambitions. Its long-term value will depend on how effectively the partners translate this framework into practical programmes, investment opportunities and commercially successful ventures.
Nevertheless, by bringing together investment expertise, corporate innovation capabilities and a supportive national business environment, the initiative offers a platform for expanding Qatar’s role in the global technology landscape. As competition intensifies among countries seeking to attract innovative companies and investment, Qatar’s strategy increasingly centres on connecting international expertise with local opportunities. The collaboration with Aurion Capital and LG NOVA represents another step in that direction, with the potential to support emerging businesses, encourage technology commercialisation and strengthen the country’s position as a regional destination for innovation-led growth.
