The teams showcased how digital innovation can help address real-life financial needs from budgeting and growing wealth to protecting one’s financial well-being.
“At blink by Emtel, we believe technology should do more than facilitate transactions; it should empower people to make smarter financial decisions and improve the way they manage their money. Hosting this challenge at EmtelWorld gave us the opportunity to engage with emerging talent and encourage ideas that could translate into meaningful solutions for the future. “I would like to congratulate MAFH for the great initiative. “Congratulations to NuBidze, Lavikler and MoniGuard, as well as to all the participating teams. Their efforts reinforce the importance of creating opportunities for young innovators to turn their ideas into practical digital solutions that can make a difference in Mauritius.”
Turning everyday financial challenges into digital solutions
The Money Minds App Challenge 2026 encouraged participants to consider how digital applications could respond to practical financial needs, from managing daily expenditure to building wealth and safeguarding personal finances. Through their presentations, the teams had the opportunity to share their concepts with a panel of industry professionals, demonstrate their proposed solutions and receive perspectives on the potential value of their applications. The challenge formed part of the wider Digital Financial Literacy programme led by the Mauritius Africa Fintech Hub (MAFH), with support from the Czech Republic through Czech Aid. The programme seeks to strengthen financial awareness among Mauritians and encourage the development of digital tools that can help people make informed financial decisions and better protect themselves against financial risks, including scams.
Three applications, one shared ambition
Each winning team approached financial challenges from a different perspective.
NuBidze, the winning application, aims to help individuals and small businesses manage their finances in one place. Combining personal and business budgeting with AI-powered financial insights and potential scam alerts, the application seeks to make money management simpler and more accessible.
Lavilker, the first runner-up, focuses on helping young adults budget responsibly, understand basic investment concepts and identify potential scams. Its proposed features include a daily safe-to-spend amount, savings goals and a tool for checking suspicious messages, alongside guidance on what to do if a user clicks on a potentially fraudulent link.
MoniGuard, the second runner-up, focuses on protecting small and medium-sized enterprises against financial fraud. The application allows users to check suspicious messages and documents, including supplier invoices, identify potential inconsistencies and understand warning signs before making payments.

A collaborative effort to strengthen digital financial literacy
Vikash Ramdin, Chief Executive Officer of the Mauritius Africa Fintech Hub (MAFH), explained that the Digital Financial Literacy programme was conceived as a national initiative sponsored by the Czech Republic through Czech Aid. The programme began with a survey that informed the development of its financial literacy curriculum before culminating in the Money Minds App Challenge, which invited participants to create digital applications that could help Mauritians improve their financial knowledge and protect themselves against scams. “Our aim is basically to make Mauritians more aware about what is happening on the financial side as well as making sure that every section of the population in Mauritius understands financial literacy,” Vikash said. He also highlighted the next stage of the initiative: developing an application that could be used by Mauritians across the country. The collaboration between MAFH and blink by Emtel underscores the importance of bringing financial education, industry expertise and digital innovation together to encourage practical solutions to everyday challenges.
Encouraging ideas that make a difference
As digital services continue to shape how people interact with money, initiatives such as the Money Minds App Challenge offer an opportunity to explore how technology can support more informed financial choices. For blink by Emtel, hosting the event at EmtelWorld provided a platform to engage with emerging talent and encourage the development of ideas that could contribute to the future of digital financial solutions in Mauritius. The achievements of NuBidze, Lavikler and MoniGuard, alongside the contributions of all participating teams, highlighted the creativity and ambition driving this next generation of innovators.
