Mauritian entrepreneur, Noor Sheriff founder of digital marketing and AI search company Lean Search, will take centre stage at an international technology event in Portugal next month, as he prepares to represent Mauritius at Web Summit 2026 in Lisbon.
Noor has been selected by Web Summit as the country’s Flag Bearer for the event, which runs from November 9 to 12. He will carry the Mauritian flag onto the Centre Stage at the MEO Arena during the opening night on Monday, November 9. The Flag Bearer programme brings together 100 entrepreneurs representing 100 countries. Selected through an application process, participants take to the main stage with their respective national flags during the opening ceremony, offering an opportunity to showcase entrepreneurial talent from around the world.
For Mauritius, Sheriff’s selection provides an opportunity to highlight the country’s growing digital sector and the potential of homegrown businesses to compete in international markets.

Putting Mauritian innovation on the global stage
Web Summit has established itself as a major meeting point for technology leaders, entrepreneurs, investors and policymakers. Its 2026 edition is expected to bring together tens of thousands of participants to discuss developments shaping the future of technology and business. Among the prominent figures associated with this year’s event are OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, artificial intelligence pioneer Geoffrey Hinton, Microsoft President Brad Smith and Cloudflare CEO Matthew Prince. The programme is also expected to address topics including generative AI, humanoid robotics and European digital sovereignty.
The anticipated participation of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres further highlights the intersection of technology, public policy and international affairs. Against this backdrop, Sheriff’s selection places a Mauritian entrepreneur among representatives from a diverse range of international innovation ecosystems. For the Lean Search founder, the opportunity is also a chance to introduce the company to potential partners and clients who may be unfamiliar with its work.
“Carrying the Mauritian flag on this stage is a source of pride for our entire team, and a responsibility,” Noor said, describing the opportunity as both a source of pride and a responsibility.
He noted that Lean Search was established in 2019 and benefited from the incubation programme at La Turbine. From the outset, the team believed a Mauritian company could deliver work to international standards while operating from the island. The Lisbon event, he said, provides an opportunity to demonstrate that ambition to a wider international audience.
From a Mauritian start-up to international markets
Founded in 2019 and based in Floréal, Lean Search works with brands and agencies in Mauritius, the United Kingdom, France and Australia. The company delivers services in both English and French, helping businesses strengthen their online visibility and generate commercial opportunities through digital channels. Its services include search engine optimisation (SEO), Google Ads, conversion rate optimisation and creative production. The company also works on Generative Engine Optimisation (GEO), an emerging discipline focused on improving brand visibility in AI-powered search tools and generated answers.
Through Lean Tech, the business also designs and develops websites and web platforms. It is additionally developing LeadsCloser, an agentic customer relationship management (CRM) platform aimed at real estate professionals. The company’s range of services reflects the changing digital landscape, where businesses are increasingly looking beyond traditional search engines to understand how customers discover brands through AI-powered tools.
By combining established digital marketing services with newer AI-focused solutions, Lean Search aims to serve businesses operating across different markets and languages.
A team effort in Lisbon
Noor will attend Web Summit alongside Rodney Napaul, the company’s director and head of AI Search and SEO, and Simon Scrive, partner and Head of Ads. The team plans to participate throughout the four-day event, using the opportunity to connect with agencies and businesses, explore potential partnerships and introduce Lean Search’s services to new international audiences.
Meetings are already being arranged ahead of the conference, reflecting the team’s intention to make the most of the event beyond the opening ceremony. While carrying the national flag will be a key moment, the visit also represents a business development opportunity for the Mauritian company as it seeks to expand its international network.
A milestone for Mauritius’ digital ambitions
Noor’s selection comes at a time when artificial intelligence and digital transformation are reshaping how businesses operate, compete and reach customers worldwide.
For Mauritius, the presence of local entrepreneurs at major international technology gatherings can help raise awareness of the expertise available on the island and create opportunities for cross-border collaboration. Lean Search’s participation at Web Summit 2026 will bring together two ambitions: representing Mauritius on a global stage and building new relationships that could support the company’s continued growth.
