MoS Shri V. Muraleedharan on official visit to celebrate indentured labourers

In the context of the 189th Anniversary of the arrival of Indentured Labourers, the Minister of State (MoS) for External Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs of India, Shri V. Muraleedharan is currently on an official visit to the island on November 1 and 2. It follows a press release of the Indian High Commission.

As part of its agenda, the MoS is expected to hold meetings with leaders on the local shores where he will inaugurate two development projects: the 8 MW Solar Power Plant at Henrietta and a Sports Complex constructed under the Indian Grant assistance. He is also expected to oversee the inking of an MoU pertaining to the joint development and launch of a satellite for Earth Observation-based applications for Mauritius while a joint commemorative stamp will also be released to mark the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Mauritius.

Mauritius is considered to be India’s key maritime neighbour in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) where it occupies a special place in the vision of the Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s SAGAR’ (Security and Growth for All in the Region). The visit is expected to further cement the common cultural and historical legacy existing between India and Mauritius, thus constituting the foundation of the special partnership existing between both nations.
