Rajeshwari Jayasankar welcomed the gathering. She explained that the partnership with Career Launcher was a logical progression for Campus Abroad and would enable CA to offer the full gamut of services to a prospective student.
Next, Sujatha Kshirsagar explained the rationale for foraying into the island economy at the sidelines of the event, before making a detailed presentation on CL’s offerings in Mauritius.
Career Launcher’s President and CBO Sujatha Kshirsagar
“We have a partnership with Campus Abroad and today is the launch event where I’m very excited to meet many rectors from renowned schools of Mauritius, and share with them our vision and how we want to make a telling difference in Mauritius and contribute to the careers and dreams of students in Mauritius as we’ve done in India,” she exclaimed, noting that CL has been helping families achieve their career dreams for over 28 years, and is present in four continents, 16 countries, and 200 centers.
She went on to make a presentation entitled ‘Global Careers and Higher Education’, noting: “The session reflects four carefully chosen words, signifying our move into a global village in the 21st century, as highlighted by Thomas Friedman’s concept of a ‘flat world’. Currently, one of six professionals works outside their home country, influenced by significant micro trends globally. We’ll discuss the phenomenal opportunities in higher education and how to enable it for our children. Macro trends in education include the changing demographics of populations, which significantly impact nations, regions, economies, and societies. We’ll also discuss the closing of top universities in the US, Italy, Germany, France, and Taiwan. Despite these challenges, continents like Africa and Asia are seeing a birth rate greater than the death rate, contributing to a young and growing population. This demographic shift is significant for global workforce trends, where India and Africa contribute significantly.”
She highlighted that CL provides services such as counselling, test preparation, and admission consulting, focusing on self-discovery, stream selection, communication skills, profile building, and awareness of career options, guiding students towards the right institutions and career paths. Their approach includes comprehensive support, from psychometric testing to admission consulting, emphasising personalised strategies for each student and helping students navigate through the college application process, offering insights into maximising their efforts and achieving successful admissions. “Career Launcher stands out with its extensive experience, global network, and continuous learning and improvement, making it a valuable partner for educational aspirations,” she concluded.
Sujatha was followed by Tony Malik who has recently retired as a partner at Deloitte, Mauritius. Tony is also a founding President of the Indian Business Council based in the island. Tony explained on the sidelines of the event that CACS was all set to be ‘the Career Launcher in Mauritius’. “We are going to be assisting students for higher studies, and with preparation for interviews and tests such as psychometric tests, IELTS tests, SATs and others, so that they are ready for universities abroad. Obviously, it’s very important for Mauritian students to get exposure overseas and that is why we are entering into this tie up,” he elaborated.
Making a formal presentation, Tony unfolded the value proposition that this tie-up is expected to bring to local students, stating: “Together, CACS and CL are redefining the educational landscape, equipping students for success both in Mauritius and globally. At CACS, we are pioneers in education, committed to shaping futures with innovative services that transcend traditional methods. Our mission is founded on the transformative power of education. We empower individuals, equipping them with the necessary tools, knowledge, and confidence to thrive globally. As Sujatha elaborated, we are architects of success, unlocking limitless possibilities for students on their academic and professional journeys, extending the services we offer at Campus Abroad Mauritius Limited. We aim to make a significant impact, particularly for the students of Mauritius, through our collaboration with CL.”
He explained that CACS was the ed-tech arm of Campus Abroad Mauritius Limited, and was being led by directors with impressive credentials and extensive experience in education and consulting. He stated that Campus Abroad was established in 2001 to facilitate overseas education for Mauritian students. “Our partnership with CL, enhances our global presence, with its centres in major cities like Singapore, Dubai, Delhi, and Mauritius. CL’s experience in effective career counselling, psychometric testing, and personalized guidance positions us uniquely in the educational sector. We provide Mauritian students with opportunities to gain a competitive edge through global exposure, enhancing their career prospects and cultural adaptability. Our approach to career planning mirrors CL’s strategy as explained by Sujatha, focusing on a holistic understanding of each student’s unique attributes. This involves skill identification, exploring passions, aligning them with ambitions, and embracing challenges as growth opportunities.”
Elaborating the services provided at CACS, he stated that career counselling at CACS is an integral process, guiding students in making informed decisions about their future. “This includes choosing the right career path, selecting educational institutions based on various factors, and offering psychometric tests to facilitate career and study choices. Our holistic approach encompasses career counselling, institution selection, and personalised guidance. We provide a range of services, including mentorship programmes, profile building services, and admission consulting, all tailored to individual student needs. Our approach replicates the successful model presented by Sujatha, ensuring comprehensive support for students in their educational journey. In summary, CACS, in partnership with CL, is committed to guiding Mauritian students in making informed choices for studying abroad. Our multifaceted strategy equips students with the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed for a successful and fulfilling study abroad experience,” he concluded.
Next, Dr. Kiran Bhujun praised the joint initiative of CL and Campus Abroad, remarking, “Congratulations on this new venture, which promises to be an asset to the country by ensuring our students are well-prepared for higher education and beyond.”
The Ministry of Education’s Tertiary Education and Scientific Research Division’s Director Dr Kiran Bhujun addresses the audience
He emphasised the essential role of education while pointing out the unique challenges that Mauritius faces in this space, stating, “One crucial question in education is how to create assets for society, contributing to economic growth and citizenship. Mauritius faces a population deficit, impacting our ability to produce a sufficient number of STEM professionals.”
He concluded on the note: “This brings me to the government’s vision of making Mauritius a higher education hub, attracting international students while maintaining high standards.”
Finally, the formal addresses were followed by cocktails and dinner, giving the participants ample scope to exchange views and to network.
