Emtel proudly reflects on the successful completion of its partnership with Winners in promoting sustainability through the WeRecycle initiative. From September 6 to 24, 2024, every Scan to Pay transaction at Winners contributed Rs. 1 to WeRecycle Mauritius, reinforcing Emtel’s commitment to environmental sustainability and recycling awareness.
The WeRecycle initiative aimed to combat pollution and foster a cleaner, greener Mauritius. Following the campaign, a cheque-giving ceremony was held on October 11, to present the collected funds to WeRecycle Mauritius. Krishnaduth (Kresh) Goomany, CEO of Emtel, remarked, “Emtel is committed to fostering a sustainable future for Mauritius. Our partnership with WeRecycle reflects our dedication to promoting environmental responsibility while advancing a cashless economy in partnership with Winners. Together, we aim to empower our community to engage in sustainable practices that protect our environment and enhance the quality of life for all Mauritians.”
Atul Bhatia, Chief Fintech Officer at blink by Emtel, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration: “Winners is one of our key partners. Through this initiative, we have successfully promoted digital payments and a cashless economy in Mauritius. This initiative not only highlights our commitment to innovation but also represents a long-term partnership that goes beyond a mere short-term campaign. Our goal is to strengthen the overall sustainability and digital economy ecosystem in Mauritius, ensuring that we are not just keeping pace with global trends but actively leading them.”
Looking ahead, Kresh emphasised the importance of continued efforts: “We hope this initiative will empower and enable positive change within the community, encouraging all Mauritians to get involved. Your participation is crucial in driving the digital economy forward and promoting sustainability in our daily lives. By working together, we can create a more resilient and adaptive economic landscape that is a win-win for all.”
Livio Bien-Aimé, Projects & Operations Officer at WeRecycle Mauritius, highlighted the NGO’s mission since its establishment in 2016: “We are actively involved in environmental protection through the collection of recyclable waste. This partnership with Emtel and Winners has allowed us to raise vital funds to support our activities, particularly our educational projects aimed at fostering responsible waste management habits.”
The funds generated from this initiative will primarily finance WeRecycle’s operations and educational programs at various levels, from primary to tertiary education, as well as community outreach. This collaboration reflects a shared vision of sustainability and responsible waste management in Mauritius.
Emtel extends its gratitude to the community for their support, stating, “Your participation has made a real difference. Together, we can create a sustainable future for Mauritius.”
