To mark World Mental Health Day, Middlesex University Mauritius placed a strong focus on the importance of continuous student support through psychological guidance — a key priority for the institution. On October 9 and 10, the university campus hosted activities under the theme “Promoting Mental Health and Suicide-Safe Communities for Young People.”
The campus became a space for exchange and dialogue, where health professionals, students, staff, and members of the public participated in interactive workshops, shared personal testimonies, and engaged in insightful discussions. These activities were organised in collaboration with the Mauritius Council of Social Service (MACOSS) and the Rotary Club of Helvetia Happiness, reflecting Middlesex University Mauritius’s commitment to listening, supporting, and promoting student well-being and personal development.
The symposium on October 10 brought together a panel of experts in psychology and mental health, moderated by Dr Émile Rivet Duval, clinical psychologist at Konekte. The event opened with a welcome address by Professor Mari Jansen Van Rensburg, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Director of Middlesex University Mauritius, and included the participation of Honourable Anishta Babooram, Junior Minister of Health and Wellness, and Niousha Tirvassen, President of the Rotary Club of Helvetia Happiness.
Discussions focused on understanding suicide among young people — a major public health issue with alarming statistics — as well as on available support systems such as Befrienders Mauritius, the impact of digital media and social networks, and practical prevention strategies. The symposium followed an interactive awareness campaign led by MACOSS the previous day, further strengthening the university’s ongoing commitment to promoting mental well-being and creating inclusive, supportive communities for its students.
About Middlesex University Mauritius
Middlesex University Mauritius, the local branch of the prestigious Middlesex University London, is located in an exceptional setting. As a leading higher education institution in Mauritius, it offers accessible, affordable, and high-quality British education. True to its institutional roots, the university fosters a collaborative and supportive community where students and faculty — many trained at top international universities — can build meaningful connections.
Students follow the same academic programmes offered at the London and Dubai campuses and earn a British degree recognised worldwide. The International Foundation Programme (IFP) provides an excellent pathway for students transitioning to undergraduate studies, equipping them with essential academic skills. The three-year undergraduate programmes lead to internationally recognised British degrees that open opportunities for global careers or postgraduate study. Students can pursue disciplines such as law, business, accounting, data analytics, computer science, cybersecurity, psychology, and creative industries.
Middlesex University Mauritius is also proud to offer innovative degrees such as the BEng (Hons) Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering and BSc (Hons) Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, designed to equip graduates with future-ready skills for an ever-evolving world.
The postgraduate programmes combine flexibility and accessibility, with evening classes and hybrid learning options tailored to working professionals. These include specialised fields such as law (LLM), data science, cybersecurity, and emerging threats. The MBA programme features a unique “carousel” model that allows multiple entry points throughout the year, giving professionals the freedom to begin their studies at a time that suits their personal and professional commitments.
The university remains dedicated to offering every student a personalised and high-quality academic experience. This commitment to excellence is reflected in graduate outcomes — in 2024, 74% of graduates achieved First-Class or Upper Second-Class honours. A British degree also provides strong international mobility and career prospects.
Middlesex University Mauritius maintains close ties with industry sectors such as banking, IT, law, business, and media, allowing students to gain hands-on experience through internships, part-time work, or graduate employment opportunities. Employability-focused skills are embedded into the curriculum, making graduates highly sought after by recruiters. In fact, over 95% of graduates secure full-time employment or pursue further studies within six months of graduation.
Beyond academic and professional success, the university places great emphasis on student well-being. Its dedicated support service offers year-round activities, while extracurricular opportunities — including student societies, leadership programmes, international competitions, business incubators, and TEDx events — help students develop transferable skills and thrive personally.
The modern campus provides secure accommodation, state-of-the-art classrooms, specialist facilities such as a dedicated moot court, and leisure areas that foster an inclusive and engaging environment. Hosting students from over 40 nationalities, Middlesex University Mauritius ensures a smooth transition into a vibrant multicultural community.
