In its latest newsletter, issued in August 2026, the Economic Development Board (EDB) has revealed that more than half a trillion rupees has been recorded in declared investment, with 250 projects almost hitting the ground, while there has been Rs 649.7 billion in declared investment projects.
It mentions that out of this, Rs 138.8 billion has been earmarked through expenditure made on construction, plant and equipment, operations, and employment, accounting for 21 percent. A significant portion of the remaining Rs 412 billion pipeline includes large-scale projects, such as integrated mixed-use and smart city projects, and renewable energy infrastructure, which are implemented over several years.
The projects are expected to unfold through successive plans and will continue to generate significant investment, boost economic activity and foster growth while strengthening the long-term growth trajectory.
Across the sectors, energy has posted 44 declared projects with Rs 23 billion in investment and is set to emerge as a significant pillar of the investment story, powered by the renewable energy transition and a growing demand for distributed power infrastructure. While health care and education are not far behind, with 28 and 21 projects respectively, to cement the jurisdiction’s ambition to emerge as a regional services hub beyond the financial services sector.
The EDB has stressed its role across the diversified investment pipeline as multi-faceted in terms of facilitating approvals, resolving bottlenecks, coordinating across government agencies, while lending support to promoters to help implement investment commitments into successful project delivery.
