Kampala has welcomed two new international hospitality offerings as Marriott International opens the Kampala Marriott Hotel and Marriott Executive Apartments Kampala, bringing both brands to Uganda for the first time.
The new development in Nsambya combines a 181-room hotel with 96 serviced apartments, offering two different styles of stay under one roof. The hotel is geared towards business and leisure travellers, while the apartments are designed for people who may be in Kampala for weeks or even months. The opening comes as Uganda’s capital continues to grow as a destination for business, diplomacy, tourism and international investment.
The location, just minutes from central Kampala and around 40 kilometres from Entebbe International Airport, places the properties close to diplomatic missions, corporate headquarters and government institutions. Cultural attractions including the Uganda Museum, Independence Monument and Kabaka’s Palace are also within reach. For Marriott, the arrival of the two brands is a significant step in its expansion across the Ugandan market.
Johan Cronjé, Regional Vice President for Sub-Saharan Africa at Marriott International said, “As Uganda’s tourism and business sectors continue to evolve, we are seeing growing demand for hospitality experiences that cater to a wide range of travellers.” The combination of the two properties, he said, allows Marriott to cater to guests with very different needs. “The Kampala Marriott Hotel carries forward the Marriott Hotels legacy of exceptional hospitality, providing guests with spaces where they can work, connect and unwind,” Cronjé said. “With Marriott Executive Apartments Kampala offering a premium residential experience for extended stays, this dual-branded property is ideally positioned to meet the growing needs of Kampala’s business, diplomatic, MICE and leisure tourism sectors.”
A hotel with Kampala in view
The Kampala Marriott Hotel has 181 rooms and suites, including a Presidential Suite. The rooms feature dedicated workspaces, high-speed connectivity and design elements inspired by the local setting. The building itself makes a statement. Two towers are connected by a skybridge, while many rooms offer views of Kampala’s famous seven hills. Some also overlook Lake Victoria. Inside, the hotel’s Greatroom provides an open and modern space where guests can work, meet, relax or simply spend time. There is also an M Club lounge for eligible Marriott Bonvoy Elite members and guests staying on executive floors, as well as a dedicated business centre. Dining is another major part of the property. Six restaurants and bars offer everything from wood-fired cooking and speciality coffee to rooftop drinks and sports entertainment.
The Woodshed Grill & Bar serves premium cuts and wood-fired dishes, while Luna Cake Studio focuses on handmade cakes and pastries. Majlis Coffee Lounge offers speciality coffee and light bites, and Kasana Deck provides casual outdoor dining. Iron Taps Sports Bar caters to sports fans, while Tatu Rooftop Bar offers panoramic views across the city. Guests can also make use of the Saray Spa, steam and sauna facilities, fitness centre and heated outdoor swimming pool.
Built for longer stays
The second part of the development, Marriott Executive Apartments Kampala, is aimed at a different segment of the market. The property has 96 serviced apartments, ranging from studios to a three-bedroom penthouse. The accommodation is aimed at executives, consultants, diplomatic personnel, project teams and families relocating to the city. The apartments come with separate living, dining and sleeping areas, fully equipped kitchens and dedicated workspaces. The concept is straightforward: give long-stay guests the freedom and comfort of a home while keeping the convenience of hotel services close at hand.
Residents can also access the development’s restaurants, wellness facilities and business services.“We are proud to introduce a destination that combines internationally recognised hospitality standards with experiences that resonate with both international travellers and the local community,” said Mustapha Fodil, General Manager of the Kampala Marriott Hotel and Marriott Executive Apartments Kampala. He further added: “Whether guests are staying with us for a few nights or several months, attending an event, meeting colleagues or enjoying our restaurants and bars, our team is committed to providing attentive service and enriching experiences that showcase the best of Kampala.”
A new venue for Kampala events
The development is also targeting Kampala’s growing meetings and events market. The hotel has 1,293 square metres of event space across six rooms. Its largest venue, the Kampala Grand Ballroom, can accommodate up to 1,000 guests. With modern audiovisual facilities and dedicated event support, the spaces are designed for conferences, corporate meetings, diplomatic gatherings and private celebrations. The opening brings Marriott International’s presence in Uganda to seven properties across five brands.
