Mauritius is set to become a meeting point for Africa’s technology community this September as more than 200 technology leaders, entrepreneurs, professionals and changemakers from across the continent and beyond gather for the Women in Tech Africa Summit & Awards 2026.
The summit will take place on 23 and 26 September at Middlesex University Mauritius and 24 September at the Hilton Mauritius Resort & Spa, bringing together voices from the technology, business and entrepreneurship sectors for a day of discussions focused on innovation, leadership and the future of Africa’s digital economy. Organised by Women in Tech Mauritius, the gathering comes at a time when technology is playing an increasingly important role in how African economies grow, businesses operate and young people build careers. But the event is also about who gets to shape that future. The summit will put women, entrepreneurs and emerging leaders at the centre of conversations about Africa’s digital transformation, while creating an opportunity for participants from different markets to exchange ideas and explore new partnerships.
For Astrid Descelles, Chapter Director of Women in Tech Mauritius, hosting the continental gathering is an opportunity to place Mauritius more firmly within Africa’s growing technology network. “Hosting the Women in Tech Africa Summit in Mauritius is a powerful opportunity to bring our Africa’s technology community closer together,” she said. The ambition, she added, is to ensure that the event produces conversations that extend beyond the conference room. “We want this Summit to create meaningful conversations, partnerships and opportunities, while ensuring that women and young people have a stronger voice in shaping Africa’s digital future.” Astrid believes that Mauritius has a role to play despite its relatively small size. “Mauritius may be a small island, but we have the ambition and the talent to contribute to something much bigger, and we are proud to welcome Africa here this September.”
Looking beyond the conference
The Africa Summit will explore questions around inclusion, ethics and the human impact of technology, alongside the opportunities emerging from digital innovation.Participants are expected to include representatives from the private sector, technology companies, the entrepreneurship community and the wider business ecosystem. The programme is also designed to encourage connections between people working in different parts of Africa’s technology landscape, from established business leaders to entrepreneurs and young professionals. The summit will be preceded on 23 September by a Youth Summit, aimed at students, young professionals and entrepreneurs between the ages of 15 and 25. The one-day youth programme will focus on technology, innovation and entrepreneurship, giving younger participants an opportunity to learn from industry figures and consider the possibilities offered by careers in the digital economy.
Recognising women shaping the industry
The summit will culminate in the evening with the 5th Annual Women in Tech Africa Awards, which will recognise women, initiatives and allies making a difference in technology across the continent. Awards will be presented in nine categories, with the winners becoming Regional Finalists representing Africa at the Women in Tech Global Awards in Paris later this year. For an industry where women remain underrepresented in many technology and leadership roles, the awards provide a platform to recognise achievements that might otherwise receive limited attention.
Opening the door to business partnerships
Women in Tech Mauritius is inviting companies and organisations to participate as sponsors and partners of the summit. The organisers say sponsorship opportunities will allow businesses to engage with a pan-African audience of technology and business leaders while supporting efforts to build a more inclusive technology ecosystem.
