“15 an partaz dan nou baz.” Fifteen years after Bagatelle Mall first opened its doors, Ascencia is celebrating the journey so far while already looking ahead to what comes next. To mark this anniversary, the company is unveiling one of its major upcoming transformations: the arrival in Mauritius, for the first time, of Flip Out, a European franchise specialising in play spaces for children. Flip Out will open in November 2026.
This announcement is part of a strategy Ascencia has pursued since Bagatelle Mall first opened: evolving the centre in step with changing usage patterns. Today, Bagatelle Mall is the largest shopping centre in Ascencia’s portfolio, with more than 63,000 m² of leasable space, over 200 retailers , including 50 dining outlets ,and more than 8 million visits per year.
15 Years of Reinvention
Since 2011, Ascencia has invested consistently to develop Bagatelle Mall. In 2016, the expansion of Home & Leisure strengthened the home, décor and leisure offering. In 2021, more than 6,000 m² were redeveloped, notably with the creation of 42 Market Street, which today brings together around thirty businesses, mostly local entrepreneurs and concepts.
These transformations reflect how Bagatelle Mall has kept pace with changing habits among Mauritians , not only in how they shop, but also in how they socialise, connect and spend time together.

“Fifteen years is a significant milestone for Bagatelle Mall, but what matters most to us is this asset’s ability to stay relevant for the future. Our role is to keep investing and to keep questioning the purpose of every space. The arrival of Flip Out in Mauritius and the transformation of the former cinema are a direct expression of that approach. Consumption patterns are changing, the relationship with retail is evolving, and expectations of physical spaces are far broader today. Our responsibility is to think about Bagatelle Mall for the long term, preserving what makes it strong, while remaining willing to rethink certain uses to prepare for what’s next. It’s this discipline of investment and anticipation that allows a destination to stay high-performing, attractive and deeply rooted in its market.”
— Simon Harel, CEO of Ascencia
Alongside this new entertainment offering, Ascencia will also develop a covered food court. Several new dining brands will complete the lineup, including Krispy Kreme, McDonald’s, Hungry Lion, Yolé, Domino’s, La Fabrik Artisanale, Au Feu de Bois, Beu Tea, La Maison Bao, Poco Y Loco and Canelo Boulettes.
Beyond Square Metres
For Ascencia, the challenge goes beyond simply transforming the former cinema. This new hub is designed to create new reasons to visit and to foster synergy between entertainment, dining, retail and services. The ambition is for the redevelopment of these 6,000 m² to help strengthen the appeal of the entire 63,000 m² that make up Bagatelle Mall.

“We didn’t approach this project by asking only what should replace the cinema. We thought about the role this space could now play in Bagatelle’s overall balance. With Flip Out, we’re creating a new hub capable of attracting different audiences and generating footfall that will also benefit the existing offering.”
— Parama Sabapathee, Asset Manager – Bagatelle Mall
More broadly, this approach reflects how Ascencia views its assets: places that are never static, but that evolve alongside the expectations and habits of the people who use them.
