Enthralling dance performances usher into the festive Diwali mood merging, the aesthetics of art, music, singing, and dance made an extravagant show in front of a huge crowd swarming to the venue. This is how the Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture (IGCIC) celebrated the festival of lights during a cultural show on Saturday, October 22.
The programme took place in the presence of Deputy and Acting Indian High Commissioner Excellency Shri Vimarsh Aryan and Director at IGCIC Shri Balwant Thakur where Diwali was celebrated with fervor and splendour.
Various dance performances that saw Kathak dance teacher and performer Ms Sadhana Negi along with her students to the tune of the super hit Hindi song, Ghar Mori Pardesiya, and swaying to the soulful music and an ode to Lord Krishna in the beautiful Bhajan Tunga Tunga composed by Pandit Birju Maharaj.
Adding another feather to the show is Garba beautifully performed by students of the IGCIC, followed by a solo act of Kathak teacher Ms. Negi, a Sufi song written by Baba Bulleh Shah and composed by Pandit Udhai Mazumdar, a riveting and divine performance, where the artist effortlessly performed to the music rhythm reverberating through the crowd.
Vocalist at IGCIC and Indian classical and semi-classical and light songs Musician who belongs to a renowned musician family of Dullabcherra, Karimganj, Assam, Shri Paritosh Kumar Sinha in a duet rendered superhit songs from Mein Samjhawan Ki from Humpty Sharma ki Dulhania, to the superhit Jaane Ja Dhoondta Phir Raha from Jawani Diwani and culminating with a cheerful, ‘Mere Tumhare Sab Ke liye Happy Diwali’ song where he invited children to accompany the singers to dance on stage.
In his vote of thanks, IGCIC Director Shri Balwant Thakur thanked everyone for making time to attend the event despite the hectic schedule on eve of Diwali with prayers taking place at home. He told, “The hall is packed despite some people expressing difficulty to be present and here I laud the efforts of the Acting High Commissioner of India Shri Vimarsh Aryan whose idea was to encourage children to light 75 lamps in the context of India’s Independence Day and Indo-Mauritius relationship.” He also saluted the presence of a representative from China’s Embassy on the day.
