MIoD hosts WE-CONNECT, fosters economic dialogue to enhance value addition

The Mauritius Institute of Directors (MIoD) hosted on Wednesday, February 25, at the Rooftop, Iconebene, the fourth edition of WE-CONNECT, a networking event dedicated entirely to company leaders, administrators, and professionals, among others.

Launched in August 2025, the platform, which over the years has turned out to be an essential event for the MIoD community, has emerged as a key tool for harnessing of quality networking while boosting high-level access to the issues of corporate governance and economic transformation.

The fourth edition was held in the presence of the Minister of Financial Services and Economic Development, Hon. Dr. Jyoti Jeetun, under the theme, « Rewiring Mauritius for the Next Economic Leap ». The event, set in the context of the campaign « Give to Gain », spearheaded by the MIoD, with a focus on the journey and contribution of women leaders at different levels, from individual experience to national economic decisions.

In line with the campaign, the MIoD has already proposed several meetings dedicated to the well-being of leaders and tracking the journey of several inspiring women.

CEO at MIoD Sheila Ujoodha commented: “With WE-CONNECT, our ambition is constant: to offer our members a space where networking is accompanied by high-level insights, directly linked to the economic realities of the country. The theme “Rewiring Mauritius for the Next Economic Leap” reminds us that economic planning, corporate strategy, and governance are intrinsically linked.”

She added, « This edition, which is also a part of our ‘Give to Gain’ initiatives, allows us to connect two essential dimensions: on the one hand, the stories of female leadership that we have stressed upon in recent weeks, and on the other, the substantive reflection on the economic trajectory of Mauritius. It is precisely this type of bridge – between public decision–makers, private executives, and emerging talents – that MIoD wishes to continue to build to the benefit of its members and the business ecosystem. »

The Minister of Financial Services, Hon. Dr Jyoti Jeetun has put into context the evening’s theme to the long term perspective, recalling the impressive economic path of Mauritius since its independence, profound changes currently unfolding and redesigning the global environment such as technological advancement, demographic development and geo-political tensions. She emphasises the fact that re-wiring implies a need to adapt and enhance value additions for existing sectors while at the same time, preparing new growth engines to help ensure that the jurisdiction remains competitive and attractive in this new context, by scripting the reflection in the Vision 2050 context.

“Vision 2050 constitutes the long-term planning horizon for Mauritius, aiming to anchor our socio-economic transformation towards the status of an advanced country, to better coordinate public policies and offer more visibility to families, investors, and companies. It is accompanied by regional, sectoral and online consultations, relying on five pillars called upon to guide our decisions and investments by 2050: a diversified, innovative and competitive economy; a society built on work, cohesion and equal opportunities; a model of sustainable development on a daily basis; institutions adapted to their missions; and a population equipped with knowledge and technology, living in a safe and secure environment,” the minister has stressed upon.

As a trusted partner in corporate governance, the MIoD  is on a continuous path to develop spaces and programs, not limited to suit solely the immediate needs of its members and also to help prepare them to excel in a constantly evolving business environment, marked by economic transformation, strategic agility and the growing demand for responsible leadership.
