Maurilait celebrates 50 years in milk products

Since 1976, Maurilait Production Limited, operating under the Eclosia Group, has shaped the milk industry in Mauritius. It’s been 50 years since the first jars of the brand Yoplait; the company has established itself as a reference point, in its ability to meet the tastes and expectations of consumers, while at the same time boosting its industrial expertise both in Mauritius and Madagascar.

Meeting local expectations, expanding with modern products

Since its inception, the enterprise has been able to meet the expectations of the local market. Following the introduction of yaourt (yoghurt) in 1976, Maurilait has diversified its market offerings, such as Dahi, inspired by the traditional curdled milk, and Perette, the first flavoured milk.

Since the 90s, the arrival of Candia milk, Miko ice cream, and the YOP drinking yoghurt has brought a gamut of choice, bringing more diversity in the local offerings. In 2014, Maurilait expanded its portfolio with the launch of Juice J, its first non-dairy product, before offering more modern products such as Greek Yogurt and Skyr.

Banking on the support and know-how of international brands it represents locally, in particular Yoplait, Candia and Miko, the enterprise has proposed products with international norms while staying rooted to the local habits and preferences.

Sustainability, reducing environmental footprints

The enterprise is constantly committing itself to modernising its equipment and optimising its earnings to help ensure the supply of high-quality products. “We privilege concrete and measurable actions,” commented the Managing Director, Olivier Zuël. “By modernising our lines and optimising our energy consumption, coupled with cutting wastage, we will ensure a reliable and responsible production.”

“Sustainability is key to the company’s strategy, which is implementing initiatives to reduce its environmental footprint while improving its processes. But the real strength of the company lies in its teams. “We support our talents and offer them opportunities to grow within the company”, Zuël added.

Expanding to meet local, regional consumer needs

Since 2020, Maurilait has taken a new step ahead by setting up a factory in Madagascar. This development constitutes the company’s ambition to impose itself on new markets while actively participating in regional development. This project showcases the company’s intent to expand its influence and meet the growing needs of local and regional consumers. With its 50 years of history and success, Maurilait approaches the future with optimism and determination, faithful to its values of innovation and quality.
