Hinduja Group meets PM, discusses role of jurisdiction as bridge between India, Africa

A delegation of The Hinduja Group of Companies, led by Ashok Parmanand Hinduja, held a meeting with the Prime Minister, Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam, in September in Port Louis.

The Prime Minister posted on his Facebook page, “This afternoon, I received a delegation from the Hinduja Group, led by Ashok P. Hinduja and Ajay Hinduja. Our discussions opened up new investment opportunities in renewable energy, electric transport, and health. We remain firmly committed to attracting concrete investments and strengthening Mauritius’s role as a bridge between India and Africa.”

In a statement to the media, Ashok Parmanand Hinduja underlined that the group has several companies and structures held in Mauritius, with investments in India and global shareholders, and that the visit was linked with the Group’s board meeting and AGM scheduled for September 18.

He shared the group’s keen interest in exploring investment opportunities on the island, across sectors such as manufacturing, electric vehicles and renewable energy, while referring to Switch Mobility that supplied 100 electric vehicles, on account of a grant from the Indian Government. Hinduja’s board chairman also shared the group’s keen interest in tapping into opportunities for the provision of additional electric buses, trucks and double-decker buses.

Hinduja explained that the group has 75 years of experience in the health care segment, where case in point is Hinduja Hospitals in India. In this context, the Group is open to exploring management opportunities under the Hinduja Hospitals Brand as well as fostering exchanges between Indian and Mauritius-based doctors for training and knowledge sharing.

While CEO at Afrinex Exchange, Thapelo Tsheole was also present, stressing on the role of Mauritius as a conduit to connect Indian and African investors. He told that Afrinex, as a leading exchange, has already engineered discussions and agreements with several countries and is on a continuous path to expand such linkages.
