On Saturday, 3 October, Cap Tamarin host the second edition of Awanam Waves. The day will bring together water activities, a market, workshops, games, music and social encounters, creating a vibrant journey through the different spaces across the site.
Following a first edition that attracted a large crowd last May, Awanam Waves is returning to Cap Tamarin. Presented by Phoenix Beverages Limited and Cap Tamarin (Trimetys), in collaboration with the site’s retailers, restaurants and cultural partners, the event returns as summer approaches with a programme designed for families, residents of the west coast and anyone looking to enjoy a day close to home.
“Awanam Waves Is Now an Established Gathering”
“Awanam Waves is no longer a promise; it is now an established gathering. This second edition confirms what we set out to create from the very beginning: a regular event rooted in Cap Tamarin, where people can take the time to enjoy being together, from sunrise until late into the evening. And what better time to come together than at the start of summer? A day designed for all generations, where everyone can find their wave,” says Valérie Legrigore, Marketing Manager at Phoenix Beverages Limited.
A Celebration Rooted in Cap Tamarin
For Kian Jhuboo, Managing Director of Cap Tamarin (Trimetys), Awanam Waves is an event that is set to continue growing over the years. “Cap Tamarin is now a vibrant urban hub. A place people return to, where they meet, and where things are built over time while staying true to Tamarin’s DNA. Awanam Waves embodies this philosophy: we are not creating a backdrop; we are allowing the area to tell the story of what it already is — from the bay to the park, and from the square to the shops,” he says. It is the people and businesses in the area — retailers, clubs, artists and restaurateurs — who bring this collective project to life. And we are already preparing the third edition.”
A Full Day to Experience Cap Tamarin
The event is first and foremost about enjoying the day at your own pace. From early morning through to the evening, visitors will be able to move between La Place, the market, the Park and the Bay, with activities evolving throughout the day.
From 6:00 a.m., the Park will host the first activities, including kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding. At 7:30 a.m., it will be time for yoga with RM Club, before the morning continues with the market and family activities. From 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., La Place will host its local market under the theme “Summer is Coming”, celebrating surfing, swimwear and board sports. At Petit Jardin, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., the flea market and Carpe Diem solidarity shop will offer a selection of objects, clothing, handmade creations and cakes.
Younger visitors will also be able to take part in workshops from 10:00 a.m. to 1:15 p.m., including face painting, jewellery making and easel painting around the “Summer is Coming” theme. There will also be treasure hunts leading towards the Park, as well as a candy hunt. Several shops and food outlets at Cap Tamarin will also be open throughout the day.
From 1:00 p.m., the Park will become the main gathering point for the afternoon. A chill zone will allow visitors to enjoy games such as slacklining, carrom and pétanque, while Lakaz Kayak will offer a trampoline, kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding. A finger-food stand and refreshments will also be available under the Awanam tent.
Music will gradually take centre stage, with a DJ set from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. From 4:00 p.m. to 4:45 p.m., singer and musician Manu Desroches will host a “garden talk”, followed by two live concerts: Rage Against The Mongoose from 4:45 p.m. to 5:15 p.m., and Moris EMA Band, a group of teachers from the Ecole des Musiques Actuelles, from 5:15 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
At 7:00 p.m., La Place will host a free concert by Manu Desroches, running from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. For those who wish to extend the evening, La Rivière will offer a jazz dinner featuring Cyril Michel, from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., with reservations required through the restaurant. The day will come to an end at Big Willy’s with “BFF by Awanam”, from 8:30 p.m. to midnight, as part of the Oktoberfest period.
Entry is free, and the event is open to everyone.
