The South Africa Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with ABC Foods, hosted a landmark event on 25 April 2024 to launch an exclusive range of Michelangelo Award-winning wines and spirits in Mauritius. This collaboration introduces an ultra-premium category to the Mauritian market, featuring products that have excelled at the Michelangelo International Wine & Spirits Awards—Africa’s largest and most prestigious wine and spirits competition.
Now in its 28th year, the Michelangelo Awards engages a panel of international judges from five continents, who blind-judge up to 2,200 entries from premier wineries and distilleries. Using the globally recognized 100-point system, only those scoring above 86 points earn the Michelangelo medals, ranging from Silver to Trophy level, signifying top-tier quality and excellence.
The Michelangelo Award, celebrated in 142 countries, stands as a hallmark of unrivaled quality, similar to the Oscars or Michelin Star Ratings in their respective fields.
Warren Bacchus, Director at the South Africa Chamber of Commerce, expressed his enthusiasm about the launch: “This partnership with ABC Foods not only highlights the exceptional quality of Michelangelo Award-winning products but also reinforces the strong cultural and commercial ties between South Africa and Mauritius. We are honoured to partner with ABC Foods for this prestigious launch and bring world-class wines and spirits to Mauritius.”
“This partnership with the Michelangelo International Wine & Spirit Awards marks another significant achievement for ABC Foods and is testament to our ongoing commitment to offering and showcasing premium products to the Mauritian market. These hand-picked premium wines are selected on a rotating and regular basis, enabling us to offer the pinnacle of fine wines to our customers,” said Paul Ah Lim, General Manager of ABC Foods.
Mr. Mynard Slabbert, Co-owner of Michelangelo International Wines and Spirits Awards, emphasized the mission of the awards: “The focus of the Michelangelo Awards is to continuously promote the excellence of the awarded wines and spirits and to seek new markets for the wine cellars and distilleries that grace the competition each year.” Slabbert further expressed his gratitude towards ABC Foods: “On behalf of the South African and international manufacturers of the finest wines and spirits, we are particularly excited and are thankful to ABC Foods and their vision in bringing the finest to Mauritius”.
The introduction of these award-winning products will surely enrich the local wine and spirits landscape in Mauritius, appealing to both to the sophisticated local clientele and the burgeoning tourist market.
