Emtel integrates the SEM-10: A historic first for the telecommunications company in Mauritius

ÉBÈNE, MAURITIUS, January 9, 2025 – Emtel Limited reaches a new historic milestone by integrating the prestigious SEM-10 index, becoming the first telecommunications company to join the Mauritian benchmark stock index. This inclusion comes just six months after its IPO, highlighting the growing importance of the technology sector in this Indian Ocean financial hub.

“This milestone goes beyond simple business success,” says Kresh Goomany, CEO of Emtel. “It is with great pride that we see in this list the historical entities that have participated in the development of our country. It also demonstrates that the company, in all its diversity, stands out at the highest levels of the economy. It is a true recognition of our role in the technological and digital transformation of the country and of the trust placed in us by our customers and investors.”

The SEM-10 index is in fact made up of the ten largest companies by market value on the Stock Exchange of Mauritius (SEM). The elite of Mauritius listed companies now include MCB Group Limited, IBL Ltd, SBM Holdings Ltd, CIEL Limited, Emtel Limited, Rogers & Company Limited, Ascencia Ltd, Sun Limited and ENL Limited.

This marks an outstanding performance by Emtel, whose growth momentum is supported by a highly qualified and experienced team. Such success is in addition to the management of world-class data centres, installation and supervision of a ground station for Eutelsat’s low earth orbit satellites, as well as the development of innovative solutions, 5G technology, extensive fibre coverage and significant capacity in submarine cables, providing reliable and ultra-fast connectivity to Mauritian consumers.

“Since the birth of Emtel, our commitment to innovation has been reflected in services that simplify the daily lives of Mauritians. From 5G deployments to our home internet solutions and our business offerings including cybersecurity, we are regularly transforming the digital experiences of consumers. Our continued investments in technology and high quality of service earned us the award for fastest network in Mauritius and East Africa in 2024. Our entry into the SEM stock market is a direct result of not only this pursuit of excellence and innovation, but also of the trust placed in us by our clients. We now have to honour this trust by continuing our efforts to make life easier for our citizens and bridge the national digital divide as much as possible,” says the CEO of Emtel.

Emtel’s recent financial performance further strengthens its position as a major player in the telecommunications industry in Mauritius. Emtel posted positive financial results, supported by significant growth after a dynamic period following its IPO. These remarkable results, achieved at the end of Q3 2024, reflect the resilience of its business model as well as the strength of its customer-centric strategy. Current trends suggest that this momentum will continue into 2025, supported by the company’s ongoing commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction.
